I had a list going of various UFOs I wanted to revisit and finish up. Halloween Figs had all the blocks finished and sewn together, but then I put the project away because all those borders seemed like a lot. Well, I bit the bullet and dived in and started putting on all those borders. There are five of them. A narrow background, a narrow black, a complicated-looking pieced one, another wider black one, and finally, a light background print that brings together all the colors in the blocks.
I had enough orange print to make the outer border, but the light background print was so perfect I had to order it. It should get here in a week or so, and I will finish up this quilt.
The first two narrow borders were a cinch, but that pieced border took nearly all day. The piecing wasn’t difficult. It was just black snowball corners attached to orange rectangles. When the units are assembled into the border, it forms a scalloped look. I called it “overly complicated”, but now that it is on the quilt top I absolutely love the effect.
When I have a ton of this type of snowball/stitch-and-flip corners, I like to use my Easy Angle guide. I just tape it onto the surface of my machine and sew from corner to corner without marking. There are tons of ways to do this type of unit, including various tools like Doug Leko’s Simple Folded Corner ruler, but the Easy Angle is my long-time favorite. Sadly, it is no longer made. Lori Holt has something very similar called Seams So Easy that you might want to check out. It is such a time-saver not to have to mark 120 little triangles. Especially black ones!
While I was sorting through UFO project boxes, I rediscovered three smaller tubs of Fig Tree Halloween fabric that I had set aside for three different future Halloween projects. Since I hadn’t started any of these projects, I consolidated all my Fig Tree Halloween fabrics into one larger tub. Instant Halloween fabric stash. I had loads of fabric, from scraps, fat quarters, and larger cuts for backgrounds and borders. Joanna Figueroa comes out with a new Halloween collection about every other year, and clearly I have been loyal about buying them.
We had a very nice birthday celebration for Dennis. It was a quiet day, with a nice chatty phone call from Ahren to break it up. Then we had champagne out on the back porch before going out to dinner, and sat out there again when we got home and finished up the bottle! Sunday, our son-in-law Ryan invited us over for a pizza party, and I offered to make dessert. What better offering than Fruit Pizza! I will get a photo and share it with you. It’s an easy summer dessert using lots of fresh fruit.

Oh wow! I like the top. All those blocks are so pretty.
I use the tape that goes in front of the needle. The worst part is making sure i align it correctly, but I get very good results.
That border is the bomb! Definitely worth the time you put into it. So stunning- I do have to ask- I decorate with quilts too so I have a lot. I think you have many more than I do, what the heck Do you do with them all? My closet is pretty full!

Susan, I have 3 different quilt ladders and a quilt stand that all have quilts on them in my family room and living room. I also have a blanket chest that I stack quilts on top of. Quilts are also draped over chairs and the couch. I also have a skinny drapery rod in a bedroom with a large quilt and one in the family room that I change out for the season.
The borders really make the top look like the bees knees! Super finish!
Beautiful quilt and love that scalloped border. All hallows eve is my favorite fabric line by Joanna Figueroa. We had a busy weekend with grandkids and baseball!

Love your Halloween quilt and its “scalloped” border. Years ago I made a wall quilt gift for a friend and it had a scalloped border like yours. Isn’t it delightful?!

If you can believe it, late last eve and overnight we had a huge storm with lots of thunder, incredible lightening, and torrential rain – total this morning was 5″ of rain in less than 24 hours. Amazing.

Fig Tree Halloween fabrics are the best and your quilt is fabulous! I often leave a quilt unfinished when I ‘only’ have the borders left…😁, then I tackle it and always love the quilt when complete.
