I must confess, yesterday was mostly spent doing errands and washing the bedding on my bed, but I did get a couple of sewing-related things done. The block above is Block 6 in the Fat Quarter Shop’s Designer Mystery 2015 Block of the Month. I got stalled on this project because I did not care for the setting at all. My interest was revived when I was inspired by a Facebook post a woman made showing her alternate setting, which I much preferred. She shared her method and fabric requirements, and when the time comes, I shall do the same.
While prepping my fabrics for the block, I discovered a woman on YouTube who was doing this exact sew-along and had posted a tutorial of herself making each block. Her channel is Kate’s Crafting Nest, and I thought she did a good job demonstrating making the block. Apparently, she provides tutorials for many current and past sew-alongs, so I recommend checking her out. I enjoy having a video of this sort playing while I sew. It reminds me of getting together with quilting friends and sewing together.
The only other thing I did was get more of my Ponsettia and Pear fabrics starched for the Christmas Stars sew-along Sherri McConnell is hosting. Gosh, those fabrics are pretty and there are a gazillion different prints in the collection. That is going to be a fun holiday quilt, with its star-themed blocks.
While out doing errands, I stopped into a Bath and Body Works, where all the 3-wick candles were $14.95. My absolute favorite fall candle so far is Maple Pumpkin (pumpkin, maple syrup, and brown sugar). It makes the entire house smell delicious long after the candle has been blown out. The other two I picked up are Cozy Sunday Night (cinnamon, crystallized ginger, and vanilla) and Bourbon Oak Records (leather and bourbon). I really like the jar designs this season as well.

I have to admit, I was uneasy about the colors used in Hey Boo, but I just love how it turned out.

Interesting quilt block – never seen one like this – I’m imagining what would happen with lots of blocks and sashings to make secondary patterns!
That block wasn’t too difficult to make, honestly! It looks a lot more complicated than the individual units actually were.

I too am catching up — glad to hear you’re safe and shocked to learn about the cause of the Gann fire! Here in New England we have had wildfire smoke from Canada recently and I’ve seen more folks wearing masks — I never stopped, so I started putting out a basket of masks on the front steps for neighbors to take on smoky days.
I hope your air is good, and if not, you and your lovely family have access to masks and purifiers and what have you — love the idea of making your home smell as sweet and cozy as possible with everything you’ve been through!
And…definitely keep us posted on all your mailed quilts — even as a casual reader I have not forgotten what you’ve been through with that either, and it’s helpful to share the good, the bad, and the ugly!
Also – I’m going to have to find more info about that visual timer in one of your recent posts, the black one with white numbers. It looks very cool, and I’ve seen Karen of Just Get it Done quilts with a similar one — seems very helpful, especially for Pomodoros which I also find quite helpful!
