Borders are boring, borders are boring, borders are boring. Ok, I got that out of my system.
As you can see in the photo above, I did get the 5th border on the Border of the Month Quilt sew-along that Corey Yoder is hosting. If I hate borders so much, you may ask, Why did I sign up to do a project called Border of the Month? Good question. This one was especially dull, as it involved three different 1 1/2″ borders. I have to admit, it makes a nice effect.
Well, the quilt itself is cute as can be. I love the bright colors and the deliberate color placement of the scraps.
Only one round left to do, and from what I can guess, it will be a simple border of the leftover squares from the colorful blocks. That will be an easy finish to this quilt. One more to add to the Flimsys pile.
I thought we were done with heat, but no, summer is giving one last hurrah. We have had temps in the high 90s Tuesday, Wednesday, and today.
Not much else going on. I had my nails done today and am making an angel hair pasta dish for dinner that involves sea scallops. I rarely splurge for them and hope I don’t over cook them. Wish me luck!
One thing that helped the time go faster while I sewed all those dumb borders was that I was listening to a book by Kate Quinn called The Briar Club. Have any of you read it? It is set in a women’s boarding house in the 1950s and features chapters on each of the women, all of whom have secrets, past lives, and relationships that they don’t want revealed. I am enjoying it a lot. Kate Quinn also wrote The Alice Network, which may be her best-known work. She is a very good author.

The border may have been boring to see but I love it! I sure wish I could sew and listen to books but I make too many mistakes.
If I am doing something boring (like borders lol) I can listen to a book. If it is tricky cutting I have to really pay attention, so listening to an audiobook doesn’t work for me then either.
Those borders really set it off. I have issues with a whole lot of squares in a row keeping the measurements accurate. Sew,measure,sew measure. But it is worth it. Another book for my library..just finished Whistler. That was really good!
Whistler is definitely a contender for my favorite book of the year! I’m reading Elin Hilderbrand’s The Academy right now (it’s ok), and listening to The Briar Club by Kate Quinn. I am enjoying the audio version of that one more than the physical book.
I did read the Briar Club and enjoyed all the stories of that era.

I started The Briar Club on my Kindle, but it was kind of dragging for me. I switched to the audio version and it is moving along great now.
Those borders, and the whole quilt, are really coming together and lovely! All your hard boring work is paying off. 🙂
I shouldn’t make such a big deal of how boring borders are in case Corey ever happens to read my blog! I have just left so many borders to the last minute recently, and it seems as if all I am doing is attaching borders to nearly finished quilts.
Briar Club was one of my book club’s favorite books last year!

I am enjoying the audiobook much more than the Kindle version. I started on the Kindle and it kind of dragged for me, but switching to audio made such a difference. The narrator is so good. Also, I love how the house itself is an actual character!
borders are boring but sometimes they really do add a lot! it’s so hot here. we ran the air-conditioner until 1:30 a.m. I could finally open all the windows. ugh. one.more.day.
Maybe this will be the very last of the hot weather. Come on, it’s September, time for sweaters and soup and fires in the fireplace.
Borders may be boring but you can multitask while you’re putting them on! I read Katherine Center’s ‘The Shippers’ while we were on our final camping trip this week. Cute story & I like her writing style.
The Shippers was good, but a couple of her previous books are even better. Try The Bodyguard and Things You Save In a Fire. I loved both of those. The Rom Commers was pretty good too.
I hear you regarding the borders! I, too, listen to audio books while sewing but generally not when cutting as you all have mentioned 😂
I was cutting something tricky today and I never would have gotten through it if there had been any distractions!
Borders do drag on but set things off so nicely! It looks lovely.
Kate Quinn is a great writer. I have enjoyed her female characters and her blending real details with fiction. She has a nice epilogue at the end of the books telling what was real and what was fictional. Sometimes it is surprising which is which.
