Finally, a new project up on the design wall. This one is called Christmas at Granny’s, a sew-along that Heather Briggs of My Sew Quilty Life hosted a year or so ago. I set it aside for some reason and have just now brought it out again. The quilt has nine blocks total, and as you can see, I have completed five of them.
The sew along is long over, but you can purchase the patterns on Heather’s website.
The blocks are fun to make. Each block center has a fairly involved (meaning lots of small pieces) center featuring a Christmas symbol. The center block is then surrounded by granny squares. I love the look of this block, but have always disliked the amount of waste involved. You can see my trim ruler above and how much will be cut away along the edges.
I hope this little quilt won’t take me too long to finish up because I have a list of other projects I would like to get to before the holidays descend upon me.
I am still slaving away on all the borders that still need to be attached. I have gotten started on the Corey Yoder Border of the Month 5th border round. There are three narrow border strips to attach at this point: two white and one grey. My plan is to work on those today.
We had a lovely three day weekend, with nothing planned. It was nice to get organized in the sewing room and feel as if I have a plan at last. Hope your week is off to a great start!

So many borders on Corey’s quilt. Yours is looking great! I love the Granny quilt but I don’t think I’d enjoy those tiny centers.
I have had to stop working on several projects because I felt a need to make quilts for two friends who are going through chemo. They are married to each other and both were diagnosed this past year. Fortunately I had some tops I could finish up. My broken arm is healing but it limits my sewing time too. My sewing room is a mess!!
Oh, your poor friends! What a nightmare. Bad enough for one of them to get sick, but both at once? When Dennis was so sick a couple of years ago, I dreaded the idea that I would injure myself or somehow be unable to take care of him. I do not know how we would have managed. It is lovely of you to make quilts for them.
I dislike the waste, too, making granny squares this way but even more, I dislike the bias edges. Your Corey Yoder quilt is looking amazing!
I cringe each time I cut off all that fabric, but the blocks are so darn cute, I get over it. lol
I made headway sewing binding on two lap quilts this weekend. Now that the holiday crowds are back to work we’re going on one last camping trip before the season ends. (a/k/a hotel room on wheels taken to a National Forest campground) Happy sewing this week!
I don’t know which is worse, bindings or borders! Have fun camping. We are having a last burst of hot weather before the cooler temperatures settle in for the fall.

So glad to hear that you enjoyed Red Clay. It had sat on my TBR shelf for over a year and I was so glad I finally picked it up. I can see why it is so highly rated on Goodreads.
