No sewing happened yesterday, but I spent quite a bit of time prepping the units for the third and fourth blocks in the Poinsettia and Pear Christmas quilt. This pattern is by Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life. The pattern instructions are very good, but Sherri has a YouTube channel where she gives tips for making each block. The fourth block, in particular, had rather complicated instructions. There were five sets of half-square triangles with different fabric combinations, and I had a heck of a time figuring out which fabric went where to achieve the design.
If you look at my computer screen at the top of the photo, you can see the ultimate block design. Let’s hope I got my combinations right!
I couldn’t even listen to my audiobook (The Briar Club), which I am deep into at the moment. I couldn’t have any distractions!

I did have to pause every now and then to fondle the fabric, though. Aren’t those colors just so pretty? I love the addition of pink and grey to the typical red and green that you find in a holiday fabric collection.

Just a quick recipe recommendation: I tried this Sheet Pan Corn, Shrimp, and Tomato recipe from Skinnytaste, and it was fantastic! It has all the flavors of summer, and I hope you will try it while corn and tomatoes are still at the top of their game. It was simple, easy, and quick. Dennis peeled the shrimp and cut the kernels off the corn cobs, so I had virtually nothing to do except add seasonings and layer the ingredients in a sheet pan. All the flavors of summer, and it was so good! That is Gina’s photo from her website.
Skinnytaste has been my go-to recipe source for my Weight Watchers meals since I started dieting at the end of June. Gina has ideas for just about any protein you can think of, and side dishes too. She always gives the nutritional information, including calories and Weight Watchers Points. This sheet pan dish had only 3 Points!
Weight Watchers is working great for me. I haven’t been this slim for ages, and I am loving how my clothes fit.
With any luck, I should get those two blocks together over the weekend. I hope you have a lovely couple of days to relax and get some sewing done yourself!

Such pretty fabric, it is going to look super! That dinner looks yummy too. So pleased you are achieving your weight loss. One pound of weight is worth 7lbs off your knees! I’m on a different path, sort of carnivore but with veg. I’m amazed at how much the inches are going away. Not enough for a complete smaller size, but my clothes are hanging with room to spare! Long way to go though. Keep doing what you are doing – well done!
I think that is the best aspect of losing a few pounds. The clothes you actually own and wear feel so much better when they aren’t snug. Even staying at the same size, your clothes have more ease and look better. I didn’t have much to lose, really, but I am so glad I made the effort to drop a few pounds. It really makes a difference.
I did not know that about losing seven pounds making it so much easier on one’s knees! Makes sense.
My brother has decided (finally) to eat healthy after two ops on his knees and had a stent. He is quite overweight but seen worse! He is thrilled that he’s lost 2lbs and is aiming for small amounts. I said small amounts stay off longer! He said it has made a big difference on his knees already. Might be mind over matter, but he’s so over the moon that it can only be a good thing!
I agree that those colors play really well together. Your sheet pan dinner looks delicious! Having a ‘prep cook’ is helpful when you have some steps to achieve beforehand! Congrats on the weight loss!
He’s great really. I used to think he was always in my way when I was trying to cook, but once I gave him a task or two he really stepped up and has been a great help. He does all the things I don’t want to: peel shrimp, husk corn, chop garlic lol
really gorgeous fabric! I love shrimp but my husband doesn’t find it interesting so I don’t prepare it much.
have a great weekend! I hope to get some sewing in……finally, the weather is cooling down. yay!
You could substitute scallops, but if he doesn’t like shrimp…
I spent the morning sewing and hope the rest of the day can be spent reading. I think it has cooled off a bit. My friend and I walked this morning and it was really nice.
Love those delicious fabrics and am confident you’re do well in making the complicated block on your computer screen. Don’t you love instructions you can watch before you dive in?!
I’ll have to sneak skinny recipes past DH because he scoffs at all recipes aimed at weight loss. Some men!
Hugs!
Dennis likes my cooking too much to complain. He has benefited from the forced calorie reduction and lost a few pounds as well, so he’s happy. Have a great weekend!
Beautiful fabric. Congrats on the weight loss.
Hoping it sticks!
Exactly. I love scallops!
