See, I can get some sewing done if I put my mind to it. I got all caught up with the A Quiltitng Life BOM, just in time for the September block to be released next week. I am so glad I switched gears with this sew-along and am using up my stash of Old Glory fabrics. It is fitting to use a patriotic collection since all Sherri’s blocks are star designs.

This is the June block, which I love. Lots of flying geese in this one, and I think they form an interesting pattern around the center star unit. You have to really watch your point intersections on this block, and I was pleased with how mine came out. (I may have re-done one or two…)

This block is for July. It’s a little different because I used a six-inch block I had made for another quilt for the center unit. I also have pulled various navy fabrics from other collections because the quilt needs a third color besides red and light blue. I scoured my stash for navy prints, especially ones with stars. Interesting note: Thimbleblossoms and Primitive Gatherings navies worked well.

This block may be my favorite. I had fun making it. That pinwheel starts out huge, and you draw diagonal lines on the red star fabric and sew along the lines to make your folded corner units. It came out nice and accurate!
So, there we are, done and dusted. This weekend I absolutely have to finish the borders on the tops I have been procrastinating on. It is getting ridiculous.
I hope you all have a marvelous weekend!

Pinwheels and stars – perfect combination! Coming on a treat!
Wow- Now I wish I’d started this one! Your colors really have been great!
The patterns are all free and available on the A Quilting Life blog: https://www.aquiltinglife.com/a-quilting-life-block-of-the-month-august-2026/
So far there are eight available, and the one for September will come out on Monday. It’s not too late to catch up. I switched gears with my fabrics after making five blocks and managed to make all eight in my new fabrics in just a couple of weeks, with not-very-regular sewing.
I love these blocks! I think I may have to sign up for the next BOM they offer. Is it too late to get the patterns for this year’s? I look forward to your blog every day!
It’s not too late to get the patterns Kathi. New ones are released the first Monday of each month. Here is the link: https://www.aquiltinglife.com/a-quilting-life-block-of-the-month-august-2026/
If you go to the A Quilting Life blog, the sew-along is called A Quilting Life Block of the Month 2026. All the patterns are archived at the bottom of the post I linked above. You can download them to make later, or print them out and make them now. Sherri does a new sew-along starting in January of every year. After the release of the free December pattern, all that year’s offerings are no longer free and disappear from her website. The patterns are available on her Etsy site, but are no longer free.
