Still can’t see worth a darn. I’ve been spending the past six days watching YouTube videos on my laptop or reading my Kindle on a gigantic font. Fingers crossed that I start to experience some improvement in the blurry vision. The 4th of July at Granny’s sew-along starts today, and I am hopeful that I can cut out my fabric and make some paper-pieced HSTs and maybe some 4 at a time flying geese.
Dennis and I attended a family dinner on Saturday night, and I volunteered to bring dessert. Dennis helped me make this beautiful strawberry pie in the photo above. It is a recipe by the Pioneer Woman, and it was easy to make (if you follow the directions) and was so delicious. However, after I had made it, my son-in-law mentioned that there were going to be 13 people attending the dinner….Ok, I needed another dessert. I had another prebaked pie crust, so I made the Pioneer Woman’s Chocolate Pie recipe.

This photo isn’t of my pie, it is of the Pioneer Woman’s pie. I forgot to take a photo of my pie, but it looked just like hers, except I used a Marie Callender’s frozen pie crust instead of a graham cracker crust. It was also delicious. To make it, you have to actually make your own chocolate pudding custard. That was not difficult either (as long as you follow the directions), and tasted fabulous. There was loads of extra pudding after filling the crust, so I put it in three little souffle cups for Dennis and I to enjoy later. Click the links for the two recipes; both are great for a spring or summer potluck. You can make them ahead and chill them for 4 or 5 hours before serving.
Wish me luck with the Granny’s 4th sew along. I sure hope I can see to start it. I am so sick of watching YouTube on my lap. I think it is making me stupid.

Nicole,
Oh, I do so hope your vision improves. Your pies look scrumptious!
First time trying the recipes and they were both excellent.
Nicole, I am so, so sorry that you are experiencing vision problems. Our eyes are so important to us and it’s easy to take them for granted……until problems appear. I love Flosstubes but I can only handle one or two in a day. Then I have to get on with my eternal list of todos. And I don’t enjoy audio books, so actually reading is my only choice. This month our book club read F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘The Beautiful and Damned’. We had quite a discussion! Very few members liked the book but they loved talking about it! It had been a long time since I’d read any of his work. I want to read some others, though I know I’ve read them in my college days. In May we’re reading ‘The Book Club for Troublesome Women’. It should get better reviews and I anticipate a lot of discussion!!!!!
Your book club sounds as if it picks great books for discussion! That is so stimulating and interesting when that happens.
I’m so sorry you’re going through this! My sister was just diagnosed with wet AMD, she’s two years older than me and started with dry AMD at the same age I did. She’s getting the monthly shots now and says they’re helping. I’m sure this is hindering your quilting progress! Praying your eyes are better soon!
Thanks Carolyn and best wishes for your sister’s improvement. Taking Areds vitamins was recommended for my family members, since this condition is absolutely genetic. My kids and sisters are all on the Areds bandwagon. Hopefully it will help.
Those pies look scrumptious! Did you serve them topped with whipped cream? Do you have any audio books right now to break the monotony while you wait for improvement? We’re Team Areds here, too.
I brought whipped cream to put on the pies, but I forgot to use it!
Yummy pies. I was diagnosed with dry AMD about 3 years ago and immediately put on AREDS. My progress is very slow, so I am grateful for that.
Hope your eye doctor and surgeon can clear up your vision quickly since your sewing project is calling to you. Might Eva help?
Your pies do look so very delicious! Yum!
Watch your email as I plan too send you a recipe of my Mom’s that makes two scrumptious chocolate pies. Oh, yes!
Hugs!
