I was inspired by something I saw on Instagram recently and just had to see if I could duplicate it. Wendy Shepherd is a fabulous pattern designer with an Instagram account called Ivory Spring. Her posts popped up in my feed, and I saw several photos of her amazing Picking Pumpkins quilt. Unfortunately, at this time there has been no pattern released for this quilt, so I had to kind of wing it.
I had loads of leftover Pumpkin Spice Gatherings fabric from an earlier project, and thought it would be perfect for this project (in fact, that is the exact fabric Wendy used in her quilt!). I opted to make a table topper (no surprise there), and it went together in no time flat.
I used the Creative Grids 6″ Log Cabin ruler to make the courthouse steps blocks. The pumpkin is a 6″ block as well. I think this quilt would make a stunning full-sized quilt, and I have enough fabric to make it, but that may have to wait for another day. This was a fun little interlude project in between my UFO cleanup, and it was fun to work on as a break.

Now, time to get back to those UFOs. My next three are lined up and ready to go. First up is the Riley Blake Barn Star Medallion quilt. I have the binding already cut and pressed, so this should go together fairly well.

Next is another binding. I got my Hey Boo quilt back from my quilter not too long ago and even though I didn’t get it bound by this Halloween, I am on it for next year. I did need to order a bit more of the pumpkin print I used for the border, and it proved to be challenging to find. It is on its way to me as I write this, so I will be tackling that binding very soon. I like the seamless look of a binding that is the same fabric as the border, don’t you? Sometimes I like a contrast binding that forms kind of a frame for the quilt, but overall, I like it to match the border.

My third UFO will actually be fun to work on during the next month or so. It is my Poinsettia and Pear Christmas blocks for the sew-along Sheri McConnell is hosting. She posts YouTube videos with construction and color-placement tips for those sewing along. Working on this will barely seem like working on a UFO, but it will be great to get all caught up and finish the top by Christmas.
I hope you all have a marvelous weekend.
ADDED LATER: Be still my heart. Eva’s water polo team won again and is now playing in the Semi-Finals.

Fabulous Progress Nicole! I Love all your quilts, the nice fussy cut centre for Xmas Poinsettia and Pear block. Keep up the great progress. Enjoy your weekend, as they are cooling down now. 😽
Nichole, love your plan for finishing UFO’s – very inspiring. You are certainly moving right along. I also appreciate your organizational skills. Could you share details on the storage container you are using for your Poinsettia project? It looks so perfect for storing FQ’s…
Cutting sashing – long way to go on my Maison Bleu. Decided I didn’t like the setting so sashing it is. Almost ready for the triangle settings. At the same time fabric has been ironed and ready to trim for binding one of the quilts hanging around waiting!
Your barn stars are so lovely and bright! You are really getting through the UFOs and lining them up!
Love the pumpkins. You did great for ‘winging it’ – but that’s no surprise!! Love the colors and fabrics in the Poinsettia and Pear.
Aye-yai-yai !! Very adorable pumpkin project – good job on “winging it” !! I like the secondary pattern of the frame around the middle pumpkin. Good progress on all the other UFO’s. Very inspiring.
Nicole, you should be feeling so good getting so many UFO’s to a finish. Fingers crossed that Eva and her team score another win and move on to the finals. Take care.
