My To Do list is a mile long, but it is so nice outside and I have so many books to read…I am doing my best to cram it all in, that’s for sure.
I have been working on my Plow and Harvest blocks. The block construction goes quickly when you have all the units prepared in advance. This is a very autumnal-looking quilt. I had to actually get down on the floor to take the photo. You’re welcome. Getting on the floor is one thing, but getting up again requires a lot of planning. Ugh, don’t get old. I used to be able to sit criss-cross applesauce, but those days are long gone.
The other major thing on my Autumn To Do list is bindings on three fall quilts I recently got back from the quilters. This little one is the one I picked to start out with. The other two are larger, and one in particular is a complete monster in size. Wish me luck! I am doing machine binding of course.
Lastly, and this is a surprise to me too, is a new fall project. Sheri and Chelsi’s new fabric collection Birch and Willow is so darn cute, I could not resist it. This adorable project calls for jelly rolls, and the center that you build your log cabin around is a little 4 1/2″ square pumpkin. Ok, I am on board. I started making the sixteen little pumpkins and still have to starch the jelly rolls which is kind of a process.
My week got off to a splendid start. I hope yours did too!

Oh I like that Corn Maze quilt. That will be nice, and the one in your ironing board. Oh heck. I like them all. My plan is to spend several hours today in my sewing room.

Same here. After my coffee this morning I hope to get in a couple of hours before I take Archie for a walk. Then hopefully, I can squeeze in some more time.
You inspired me with the Plough and Harvest pattern so I ordered it and am making a Christmas quilt with Sherri and Chelsi’s poinsettia and pear fabric. I just love their fabric lines!!
Jane, that is a brilliant idea. You remind me that I need to catch up on my Poinsettia and Pear project. I have only gotten the first two blocks done!

Those little pumpkins are adorable! 🎃 They’ll be the stars of that quilt! Be sure to show us your starched jellyroll strips on the drying rack…I’ll bet they look pretty fluttering in the breeze on your deck.

I don’t know how you accomplish so much. Your projects are always interesting.
I do have a question for you. Because you starch your fabrics, does that mean you have less ravelling and threads to clean off the back of your quilt before you send it out to be quilted?
I have a lot of projects going on at one time, but finishing them is another story! lol
Starching cuts down considerably on the amount of raveling. Especially on precuts like layer cakes and jelly rolls. It is so pleasant to sew with nice crisp fabric. I will never stop starching.
I bought the ‘Hello Fall’ quilt pattern and started it immediately. I already have a ton of Halloween fabric. well, except for background fabric. that’s why I emailed you last week about your background fabric strategy. ;p
are you using the Creative Grids Log Cabin ruler for this quilt? I have the ruler and I’m dying to use it.
I’ve gotten pretty good at squatting down and getting back up. sitting on the floor and getting back up is a whole other matter…..so, thank you.
I had a yoga instructor once who said the smartest thing you can do as you age is to get down on the floor and get back up again, every single day.
Hmmm, good question about the log cabin ruler. The pattern just says to cut strip pieces of various sizes. The unfinished block is quite large: 16 1/2. You build everything around that center 4 1/2″ pumpkin square. Do you know of a log cabin ruler that works for that size block?
My starched jelly roll strips are dry. I should go upstairs and make a block and see what happens.
my creative grids ruler only goes up to 12″ . if you have that one you could use it up to 12″ and then just go for it for the last rounds.
I’m just dying to make one but the stupid beautiful pattern I bought from Laundry Basket is an irregular size?! the pattern front and back should tell people. I shouldn’t be surprised when I read the directions. the unfinished block size is 71/4″?! the pattern is Pioneer Log Cabin. it’s so gorgeous and I’m so mad. 🙁
