It may not have been the most productive weekend, but it was adequately productive, if you know what I mean. I have a lot of projects to work on, but for now I think I am going to *try* to focus on one primary project. The photo above is my six weeks of progress on the 4th of July at Granny’s sew-along Heather Briggs is doing. It is really coming together now, don’t you think? Those blue background blocks that I added this week give the quilt some drama! There will be four more blue background blocks this week, and then a center medallion.
I do love a sew-along that releases blocks on a weekly basis. I feel as if I am getting things done!

Regarding my recent post on the Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery quilt project for 2025: to recap, I didn’t care for the setting and decided to abandon the whole project. Then, I saw Pam’s photo on Facebook with her beautiful chain setting and thought this sew-along could have a happy ending for me after all.

The blocks stand out beautifully in her setting, rather than getting lost in a busy setting with too many prints and fabrics. Sometimes simple is better. That is Pam’s photo of her quilt, posted here with her permission.
Anyway, back to the blocks I have completed. In the photo above of the three blocks, you can see what I have finished so far. They are blocks one, two, and eight. I jumped ahead and made number eight out of order because I dipped into the fabric for that month while remaking block two. Thank you to FQS for being so generous with the amount of fabric they give you in a kit. I will get back in order and make block four next. Barbara was asking what the name of block two was. That is the block on the far left of the photo. On the pattern envelope, it is called “Stars Align” and was designed by Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree & Co.
In family news, Eva has graduated from 9th grade and is now a sophomore! She is getting so grown-up. She will be busy this summer at her new job teaching preschoolers to swim in the shallow end of the pool. She plans to hang out with me in the afternoons this summer and I am looking forward to that.
Hope you all had a great weekend!

Pam’s Irish chain setting really works great! I think it adds to it and balances it out nicely 😻
Love everything you are doing and what a great summer with Eva time! Enjoy every minute.
I think the Irish chain setting is perfect, it allows the blocks to shine. It is great news about Eva time, the two of you will enjoy your time together.
Love the chain setting. Thanks to the kind lady for letting you share her setting. It has inspired me to go through my ufos. One has 70 plus blocks made out of a hundred. Another has at least 50 blocks finished. I had been debating donating them to a group who finish
Quilts for donation.
Love it all!! I’m so glad you are getting some Eva time!
That was generous of Pam to allow you to share her layout. It does allow the blocks to shine! You & Eva will be baking up a storm this summer! Can’t wait to see what you two come up with! 🍪🍰
I like the chain setting too. It’s a nice variation from the more sashing around a square block.
I love a chain setting!
Oh, that is a really nice Irish chain setting. I love those strong diagonal designs that it creates. Eva will no doubt have fun teaching; and what a great full-circle moment for her!
I love the bright colors you’ve chosen for these blocks. they really are cheerful. it’s warm here. blah.
The Irish chain is a perfect setting for the beautiful quilt blocks. As they say, sometimes less is more. Enjoy every minute with Eva!
Great choice for the Irish chain setting for those blocks. I did something similar for a sew along I did. Enjoy your time with Eva!
I so wish I had seen her setting before I did my boring assigned one, It is so much more attractive. Oh well, next time.
Definitely the chain setting. Nicely done Pam and thanks for allowing Nicole to share it with us. All coming on nicely Nicole. Congratulations Eva and now the fun summer begins.
