Blocks All Done!

  1. Love the top and I like the centre star points – might be an optical illusion that they appear darker, but it’ll be awsome even if you choose a lighter colour. The mystery quilt looks fun too – the polka dot fabric is just the right background hue too.
Thank goodness Ahren’s injury wasn’t a break! Even so surprising how much you use your hands – trying to put clothes on even! But on the bright side it’ll heal quick!

    1. He says it is getting a bit better each day. At first, he couldn’t use it much, but his landlord was coming over yesterday, and he was able to vacuum, so his house looked tidy. Nothing like a bit of pressure, right?

  2. Your 4th of July at Granny’s quilt looks great! I just got back to mine yesterday evening and am just finishing up week 3 so I have a ways to go. I appreciate seeing the blocks together as I was questioning the second round being a mix of red and blue blocks, but they look great.

  3. Congrats on getting your blocks finished! Could it be that the center star ‘reads’ as solid red? Perhaps swap that for a red with more visible dots? I’m so sorry to learn that Ahren fell & injured his hand. I’m sure that along with being painful it also put a damper on the end of his visit with family. Thankfully, it isn’t broken! I don’t have much sewing happening right now because we’re getting ready to leave for our nephew’s wedding…on an Alaskan cruise! I’m looking forward to visiting the quilt shops in our ports!

    1. First of all, an Alaskan cruise wedding? Oh my goodness, does that sound like fun! I just finished a book, The Shippers by Katherine Center, that is a rom-com set on a destination-cruise-ship wedding. It would be perfect reading for your trip! I hope you have a blast.
You are right that perhaps one of the red prints with stars or dots would be a better choice for that center red star. I will have to play with it today.

      1. You knew that I was searching for a book to load on my Kindle, didn’t you?? I ordered The Shippers & look forward to enjoying it onboard. Thanks for the recommendation!

  4. Wow I feel Ahren’s pain – literally! I tripped in a parking garage holding all my bags. Ended up with a slght break at the top of the arm and a slight tear in the rotator cuff. No fun! I hope he heals soon.
Just love this pattern and yours looks so good!

    1. I am too old to fall down. I took a spill on my friend’s stairs and landed in a heap on the floor. My knee was sore for 9 months! I am so careful now anytime I am going up or down stairs. I hold onto the rail tight and go super slowly. I do not want to repeat that experience! It is easy to trip in a parking garage. Those concrete things to park your car up against are so easy to trip over.

  5. Your quilt is lovely, I can’t believe how quickly it came together! I’m glad Ahren is okay. We just came back from a cruise to Bermuda and we went to Horseshoe Bay. We went off exploring, the tide started to come back in and I managed to fall into the ocean, fully dressed of course, and slammed my hand into a piece of limestone. Fortunately I wasn’t hurt, other than my pride, but the entire back of my hand is black and blue. Can’t believe a wave completely wiped me out! I was lucky!

    1. Oh no! Perhaps being in the water helped break your fall somewhat. What a nuisance to be completely soaked when you were out and about. It is so embarrassing to have something like that happen. Been there, done that.

  6. it is stunning! really perfect for 4th of July. how many times have I tripped walking the dog? so.many.times. I live in an old neighborhood and we have lots of uneven sidewalks. I can’t believe I haven’t broken any bones. Have fun with the rest of the sewing…..I’m hoping for a few hours of sewing today after I get the dog out for his mid-day walk.

    1. It is so easy to be pulled off balance when you are walking a dog. Archie has nearly pulled me over, and of course, he is right where I want to walk, and I trip over him so often too. One of these days I will do down I know it. You have it worse with your big bruiser of a dog!

      1. I told my doctor that I don’t need a bone density test. I know my bones are solid because I haven’t broken one after falling on concrete. ;p She laughed but still ordered the test. It really does hurt hitting concrete. I feel for Ahren. I really do.

        1. Ahren fell while touring an old castle. The place had a first aid office, so he reported the accident and mentioned that the stairs outside have no railings which is unsafe. He was told, “This is an old castle; we are keeping it authentic”. But all the inside stairways had modern railings installed. I call BS.

  7. The 4th at Granny’s certainly is perfect fit for this summer, celebrating the Red, White and Blue! Your 2025 Designer Mystery blocks also look like summer, just not the patriotic version. The fabrics are always so beautiful.
Sorry to hear of Ahren’s fall, so fortunate there was no break. Sometimes bruising are more painful than a broken bone. Wishing him well.
    Enjoy your sewing time!

    1. I’ve been trying to sew a bit each morning before it gets hot upstairs. So far, I have kept to my schedule!
Ahren saw an emergency doctor who didn’t seem very qualified. She claimed not to be able to “read” the x-ray and said he could make an appointment to see an orthopedic surgeon. That seemed a bit drastic, so he has continued to ice it and wear a brace, and he says it is getting better each day. He thinks it is just a bad bruise.
