I put my nose to the grindstone this weekend and finished up Week 2 of the 4th of July at Granny’s sew along. Just in time for the release of Week 3’s blocks today! These blocks are a cinch: I’ll get them done!

Here are all my blocks so far. I believe I need to make four more red background blocks this week, then I will move on to another color combination.
All in all, it was a lazy weekend. I made another snacking cake, a mixed berry one. It was really good, but of course I neglected to take a picture. Never fear, I will make this recipe again and share it.
In other news, 14 year old Eva is such a good swimmer, that she has been invited to be the youngest junior life guard in recorded history (not sure about that statistic, but it feels right) this summer at her high school/community pool. So proud of her. I can’t think of anyone better suited for the job. I think she will also have some responsibility teaching little tots not to be afraid of the water and how to learn some basic skills. Good grief, she will need a work permit.
Hope you had a chance to listen to Sara and my book review podcast on Reeding Between the Lines last week. I plan to post my book reviews for what I read in April sometime this week.
Wishing you all a splendid week!

Your blocks are lovely and so patriotic! I’m enjoying watching the quilt progress. Such fun! Congrats to Eva – what a wonderful accomplishment and she’ll have a fun summer.
Thanks Kelli!
Well, I took a nosedive into the Granny pattern blog and am really impressed with her other patterns. I have at least 2 other RWB quilts to finish so I won’t be doing this one. But I will love watching your progress!
It was kind of an investment, both in fabric and in the cost of the pattern. There are so many free sew alongs, which are great, but I can’t fault Heather for monetizing all the work she put into designing it and posting the patterns and other info each month.
Lovely little blocks – well they look little until you count the inches on the cutting mat and realised they are a good size bigger than I imagined!
Well done Eva, that is amazing. Nothing quite like having a little job that is something you love doing – then it seems like being paid to have fun!
She will have to get a work permit! She won’t be 15 until the end of July.
What a great compliment to Eva being asked to lifeguard! It’s a big job with lots of responsibility! And, I’m thinking the little kids will fall in love with her! Love your red blocks! Have a good week!
I think she will be excellent with the little kids too!
Love these red and white blocks, they are perfect. Congratulations to Eva on her swimming achievements! It sounds like she is going to have a great and busy summer.
I see so much less of her now that she is so involved in her swim activities!
Yes, those newest red blocks are beautiful, just like the others are. Glad to hear that Eva is so proficient that she has been asked to lifeguard – what an honor!
Sorry that you had to cancel your trip. Hopefully it can be rescheduled for when all your eye issues have been improved and settled. It sounded like such a fun itinerary.
So proud of Eva. I have never been an accomplished athlete, so I really admire her ability.
I have four more red blocks to make, then I will be very happy to move on to another color combination. Enough with the red.
gorgeous blocks! I just love that cheerful red!
I don’t mean to sound like an old woman BUT…..tell Eva to wear sunblock. She’s a blonde. Most sun damage is done in our early years. I grew up in Pleasanton during 60s and 70s. We didn’t wear sunscreen of any kind. I have the deep wrinkles to show for it. ;p Sunglasses too! Protect those precious eyes.
Oh, she has always been so good about using sunblock. However, she is still as brown as a berry, as Grandma Agnes would say. The sun can do so much damage, you are absolutely right.
