  1. Pretty fabrics and you can’t go wrong with a star to boost happiness and playing with pretty fabrics!
Drugs test on Eva! I don’t know if that happens here, but with our loopy lot, it wouldn’t surprise me. They stopped TB testing here years ago. We had BCG vaccines at our school only because another nearby school had someone who had contracted it. It was just our area and not country-wide – no adults were tested or vaccinated like our parents nor the teachers – when adults can get it too. Certainly wasn’t done when my two were at school
A good walk with a close friend (and the pupster) does set the world to rights.

  2. My working life as a Medical person required us to get TB, HEP B, and others on a regular basis. I’ve been out of the field for almost 10 years so I’m not sure what they do now.
Lovin’ the quilt! I’m looking for a nice walk today with hubby. We finally have weather above 40!!

  3. Those blue stars really pop on the background! In Wyoming kids can get jobs without a permit at 14. They can also get a ‘hardship’ driver license at 14-15 because of the distances between places in our rural area. When I was teaching we had to get TB tests periodically, but I don’t know about nowadays! Fresh air walks have to go a long way lifting your spirits! I do get the ‘sniffing everything’ part for Archie…it’s a dog thing!

  4. I agree about the TB test. As a public school teacher in 1960 in Austin, Texas, I was required to have a TB test every other year, and I was required to have a medical exam every year!!! Otherwise I could not teach…and there were plenty of folks who would have loved to have my job!!!! Austin was a prime target for teaching applicants. I knew how lucky I was. Now I am pretty sure there is no requirement for either test. Schools in Texas are losing children to private and home schools. The level of educational excellence has shrunk miserably and parents are tired of it. It is a sad state of affairs!

  5. yes, TB is still around. a private Catholic high school in SF JUST had a big outbreak. Someone returned from overseas and had contracted it. the public health dept and school were slow to respond and now 20% of students/staff have tested positive and under preventive care. 7 have active TB and are being treated. A mess.

your blocks are gorgeous. I’m glad you got out yesterday. one good thing about having a dog is they need lots of exercise. I get out and walk rain or shine. same for my husband. we share walking duties. gym really helps me too.

I understand how you feel about the drug testing. I really do.

  6. My daughter had to have a TB test before she started teaching preschool. A few months ago, there was a TB outbreak at a school in San Francisco. It was a disaster-there are still people being diagnosed with latent TB. It was at Arch Bishop Riordan. So, TB is very much still a thing.

  7. Yes, your extra 2 blue blocks are adding in beautiful contrasts. A good walk with a friend and the doggie are always a plus for any day!

Yes, TB testing is still a requirement. Although at our university we require a Quantiferon Gold TB test that is a blood test and is supposed to be better/more efficient/more specific ?? I don’t really know the details, but we no longer accept the skin test for it.

  8. Love your new blocks and that the next block will have more blue! Great plan!
It does seem silly for a 14 year old to need a TB test but suppose it’s needed to stop any transfer.

    Hugs!

  9. Hi Nicole: So many strict rules when working with kids. Twenty yrs ago I had to drive my son ( so he must have been about 15) to drug testing to obtain his job as swim coach and lifeguard. He was paralyzed by the idea that anyone could suspect him of using drugs. He could not produce a specimen at the lab because it upset him so much. Finally, on the third day of going to the lab he could produce enough urine to pass the test. Hopefully, Eva will take it in stride and have a wonderful summer with the little kids! Good for her! You are on to something-being easier on yourself.
