Meet Miss July, the next block in the Calendar Quilt. Yippee, I am more than halfway through the year!
This block is one of Lori Holt's from her first Farm Girl Vintage book. It is called "Old Glory". If you are new here, this quilt I am making was inspired by Sherri McConnell's (of A Quilting Life) 2025 free Block of the Month Sew Along. Sherri is providing a free center block, which is then surrounded by log cabin strips. I am using my own center blocks to make a calendar themed quilt to commemorate all the months of the year my granddaughter Eva and I have spent together doing seasonal crafts, cooking, and other activities. It has been my privilege to spend a lot of time with this sweet girl during her life, and I plan to give her this quilt as an eighth grade graduation gift.

I made a start on the August block on Saturday before Dennis and I left for the Bay Area. This center block is "Honey Bee" from Lori Holt's Farm Girl Vintage 2 book. Lori's books sure have come in handy for a lot of my monthly center blocks. I had a hard time coming up with a block for August. I knew as far as color placement in the quilt I wanted to use yellow. A sun block seemed boring, and I couldn't think of anything else, so here we are.

Here is how it is all coming together so far. Now to finish August, September, October, November, and December!
Sara and I have a new book review podcast out. To listen, click on the Reeding Between the Lines link to the right, or here to go YouTube to see us in person. This month's topic is Books We Are Looking Forward To, and Problematic Authors. Please subscribe!
Hope your week got off to a great start!

I think Eva’s graduation quilt is going to be a favorite of mine! Yes, Lori Holt certainly has some cute blocks. Hope your appointments go well and looking forward to seeing the last five blocks!
This is going to be a very special quilt for your granddaughter! The blocks look great!
This is turning out to be a very clever quilt. The blocks are cohesive with the log cabin setting. The center blocks make it very cute. I really like the colors.
You’re really making good progress! The flag block is perfect for July! Can’t wait to see how August’s bee block finishes! I’ll give your podcast a listen this afternoon.
Love the little flag block and the bee is going to be perfect! You certainly are finding perfect centers for the log cabin blocks. Over half way, yay!
omg! I can’t believe how cute those are! hope you’re feeling better.
Hope that Dennis’ procedures/infusions are going smoothly this week.
Those blocks are all just so adorable. The fussy cutting on the bee’s wings are just perfect! It will be so cute.
I hope you’ll forward these blocks, or the finished quilt, to Lori Holt. I think she’d be tickled.
Wonderful little blocks! Glad I don’t need to pick a favorite!
