Seriously? I just followed the fabric suggestions that were in the Fig Tree Strawberry Garden book. The flying geese block on the left was the result. Now, that, in my opinion, is a poor choice of fabrics. I re-made the blocks with a less fussy background and a darker tone on tone "goose" fabric and much prefer the results. That was my point yesterday about value and contrast. A big blowsy floral print is not going to show off your piecing like a more solid-reading fabric will.
I plan to remake the basket block as well, and leave out that fussy brown floral print, but I needed to order more of the brown tone on tone.

Now, these blocks I like. No complaints here. They came out very pretty I think.
Next up are a bunch of little bow tie blocks. Hope to knock these out today.

These are all the blocks I've made so far.

Archie has been quite mopey since Eva left. He spent the day in his dog bed and barely lifted his head to acknowledge us when we went outside for "family time", when Dennis and I sit on the back porch with a glass of wine, and Archie gets a little treat ball filled with dog food. He finally came out, but he seems less than his usual jolly self. I am thinking he misses Eva and is depressed about being stuck with the boring old folks.
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend. I have absolutely nothing planned, and that's fine with me! Monday, Dennis and I are driving down to Carmel By the Sea (our old stomping grounds) for a couple of days of relaxing in the ocean air.

I noticed some of the folks doing the Moda Blockheads 6 are posting block combinations like your first one. I use this as an example because there are a lot of postings of those right now. I do not find it flattering at all and agree totally with your decision. But to each his/her own!
I hope Archie cheers up soon.
I like your version of the blocks better also. When it’s too fussy it defeats the purpose. I don’t feel it showcases the fabric the way the designer hoped would either. Enjoy your getaway!
Enjoy your getaway, one of my favorite areas for a SoCal girl. We just returned from CA and enjoyed a week of sunshine, cool mornings and cool evenings in conjunction with a wedding celebration. It was wonderful. Crowded airports and freeway, lots of construction in Sacramento. But, I still love my old home state. I love your new blocks you made, and also the reconstructed blocks. Flying geese need to look as though they are flying. Hope Archie’s mood picks up.
Your new & improved version is just right! The fabrics you used in the two new blocks are very pretty together. First Eva’s gone & next you’re leaving Archie? He’s not going to like that one bit! Enjoy your time away & he’ll be a happy pup when you return!
Your blocks are beautiful! Using a busy print hides your perfect piecing of the flying geese and basket. The fabrics are all beautiful but not for those blocks. Your upcoming trip sounds wonderful, enjoy!
have a wonderful trip!!! hope archie gets to go to camp…that’ll cheer him up.
Love your new blocks and fabric choice! It’s tough sometimes when they recommend certain fabrics and the blocks seem to melt into the background which I think may be their point. Have fun on Carmel and maybe get Archie some new toys 🤣
Got a good laugh at Archie’s expense! Poor dog having to deal with the old folks!
