This is the Berry Picking Basket for the Fig Tree Strawberry Garden quilt. It actually came out great, but I am not happy with the large floral print that was suggested for the block. My points on the top of the basket came out perfectly, but you would never know it for the big blowsy flowers that hide the points.
Nevertheless, it is a cute block, and it was fun to make. I considered remaking it with another brown Fig Tree print from my stash, but in spite of having years of past Fig Tree collections on hand, nothing was a good match. Weird, right?

Again I had to use that funny brown floral for this random flying geese block. I pretty much hate how the big floral print and the fussy background completely distort the shape of the flying geese. I will probably end up remaking this one in some other color because that really bugs me.
Value and contrast friends. That is what makes your design elements stand out, and don't you forget it!
Eva goes to stay with her mom today, and my house is going to seem pretty darn quiet without her. She and Archie have really bonded. He didn't want to leave her side at all. If she were walking around, he would be on her heels. If she were sitting on the couch, he would be curled up next to her. If she went outside to sit on the porch, he was lying at her feet. He is going to be a lost little soul when she's gone.
I have been reading up a storm this week and have finished three books already. Clearly, they have been good ones too, otherwise I would have been able to put them down.
Hope your week is going well. Happy birthday to my Cousin Rene! Our birthdays are a day apart and we always send each other a chatty note on the occasion. I was a bit late sending out my card, but Rene, it should come by the end of the week! Happy birthday!

I agree with your comments Nicole regarding the fabric choice of your blocks. It’s odd isn’t it! I always feel flying geese need to be properly framed. Glad to read you had a happy time with Eva and lovely that she and Archie have become such good friends! Have a great weekend!
Those prints just don’t play well together in flying geese blocks! You’ll be much happier when you’ve re-made them. Archie will be looking for his girl for a few days. He’ll be so excited when Eva returns that he’ll forget that she was even away! Birthday wishes to your cousin Rene! Hope it was a happy day! 🎂
Fabric choice is really a personal thing isn’t it? The only one of the 3 fabrics in that basket that I like is the cute lime check. The other 2 leave me cold.
How much time each day do you spend reading? I know it would vary from day to day, and you must be a fast reader. I need to set aside more time devoted just for reading. It is so easy to fill hours with endless tasks. But you spend time in the sewing room too and get a lot done there! And you cook! Most impressive, Nicole!
Some designers are showing busier low volumes as options. Perhaps it a trend. The results are often rather ho-hum. Perhaps a quieter background could make those points pop out. It’s cool that you tried it though. I refer back to your book reviews often. Thanks!
Bummer about your fabric but the block still is cute! Happy early birthday or late birthday to you! I’m sure you will do something fun!
And a Happy Birthday to you, too!
