Focusing on Strawberry Garden

In an attempt to gain peace of mind, i have decided to try to focus on one quilting project at a time for a while. Maybe if I feel like i am progressing towards a finish, I will feel less overwhelmed by all my myriad of projects. I decided to go with the Strawberry Garden project, which is in a book by Fig Tree. I have made a lot of blocks, but I still have a way to go. The next block up in the book is a fairly large and complicated block featuring two strawberries.

Take a look at all those pieces! I like to use the Alphabitty tags to keep my pieces straight and I got up to T! This is not a record for me, but still, that is a heck of a lot of pieces for one block!

I
was pleased at how nicely this came out, even it it did take me half a day to make it! It is really four blocks in one.

I went ahead and rearranged the blocks to show their approximate final placement in the quilt. It looks like I've made a lot of blocks, and I have. However there are a lot more to go. There will also be a pieced lattice separating some of the blocks. Putting this thing together is going to be a project in itself! This is a rather involved quilt, not for sissies, for sure. I have seen some that are finished and they are amazing.

This is the finished result I am going for. You can see I have my work cut out for me. I'd better get cracking.

  1. That will be a gorgeous quilt! Those are definitely the colors I gravitate to. I’m a sloth compared to you. The number of projects I have going is also bogging me down. I feel like I’m making zero progress. Truth be told, life has gotten in the way of my stitching.

  2. I get what you mean about stepping back from the self created whirl wind of half done projects. The Strawberry figs quilt is so summery, it reminds me of the Halloween Figs quilt I did as a BOM a few years back. Lots of interesting blocks, but time consuming and fun at the same time. One day you look up, and you’re done, looks like you are more than half way 🙂

  3. Your strawberries are spectacular! 🍓🍓 You’re making good headway & it really shows on the layout. Bravo!

  4. The strawberry block would make a perfect little wall hanging. This quilt is a test for piecing skills for sure, it’s going to be beautiful! 🍓

  5. Testing to see if I can again post here …
Love the fabrics in this happy quilt and agree there’s a time to settle on one project and see it to completion.
With all of my UFOs, I – of course – am making a scrappy Single Irish Chain baby quilt for a friend’s granddaughter and am piecing the many 9 Patches today.
Hope all is going well with your sweetie’s treatment and that you two will be headed home before you know it.
    Hugs!

  6. Smart idea. I should do this. Just focus on one thing at a time. Life’s too short to be going in circles. I love to read about your family and your quilting adventures. Have a great day.

  7. I made this quilt back when Joanna offered it as a BOM. I specifically remember thinking this block was never ending. It is so cute though when completed:)
