I did some productive sewing over the weekend. I completed the four remaining blocks for Week 4 of the 4th of July at Granny’s sew-along, hosted by Heather Briggs. These blocks are the same as the two blue plaid ones I made first. However, the red fabric was a lot less of a hassle to sew with! No lines or patterns to match up, and every one of those blocks came out great.
I am looking forward to making more blocks with blue fabric!

Here are four weeks of blocks. They are adding up quickly and making a nice-sized pile.
I also worked on my Sewcialites 3 blocks and have to admit I have veered totally off the program and am doing my own thing. I will share some pictures tomorrow and you can see what I have done. Some of the blocks I worked on were truly experimental and probably won’t make it into the quilt. More on that later.

I have to jump in and tell you all about a fabulous book most of you are going to love. Remember the book, The Help, and the movie of the same name? Well, it took her 17 years, but author Kathryn Stockett has a new book out called The Calamity Club. It is a big chonker of a book, but I savored every page. It was SO good! I highly recommend you spring for a copy of the book and start immersing yourself in the story. There is a character of an unforgettable eleven-year-old girl named Meg that will stay with me for a very long time.
Hope you all had a great weekend! Our Calaveras County Fair is now over. My son-in-law, Ryan, entered some of his new release wines and won a number of ribbons: one gold, five silvers, and a bronze! Eva entered one of her floral arrangements and received an Honorable Mention!

Loved Calamity Club! I got it through the library as a loaner, so I had to stick with it to get it done before the due date. Worth every minute!
I was looking for a new book, and now I have one. I am in the middle of Lady Termaine, another recommendation of yours, its very good.
On a one week tropical vacation and just started this book. Glad to know you liked it. I figured vacation was the best time to start such a hefty book.
Congratulations to your son – awesome results for him. Eva too – well done! I still like your blocks – whatever colour!
Congratulations to Eva & her dad! 👏👏👏 And good for her putting herself out there giving it a try! You have a great collection of blocks for the 4th of July quilt. I listened to the audio book of The Help way back when. It took awhile because I only played it when I was driving. Thanks for sharing her new book–the woman sure can write!
those flower arrangements the kids make and then sell are gorgeous. I remember the one you purchased and shared a picture with all of us. gorgeous work. wish they had that here. I’d buy all the time….
congratulations to Ryan and to you for getting those blocks made. so warm and windy here. makes me nervous about fires…so nervous.
