What have I been up to? A bit of this and a bit of that. Over the weekend, I got the notion to take a look at the Old Glory fabric collection I had been using for a sew-along last year. I had abandoned the sew-along halfway through because I was unhappy with how the blocks were going together. It was one of those settings with several block sizes, and it looked very chaotic to me. I ended up setting it aside, but I really did love that fabric collection by Lella Boutique, and recalled that I had a lot of it left over.

I’ve been thinking that I would like to make a quilt using just one block, a flower design. A while back, I had made a practice block with some leftover Fig Tree fabric, and it had turned out pretty cute. I thought this block might work well with the leftover Old Glory. I played around making a couple of blocks with Old Glory (in the top photo) and really liked them. I have loads of background leftover, so I know I have plenty of fabric to make a good-sized quilt. I will be happy to have “saved” that quilt! The plan is to pick up the scraps and make a block every week or so in between my “official” current projects.

In other news, have you ever just bought a book because of the cover? I may have done just that, but I think it will work out ok. The Scent of Oranges by Kathy George is a retelling of Dickens ‘ Oliver Twist, from the point of view of the character Nancy. Sounds promising, right? I will not only get a lot of joy looking at the cover, but check this out:

Can you even believe those sprayed edges? I know sprayed edges are a bit of a “thing” right now, but this is just so pretty! I know I won’t get to this book right away, but I will be sure to let you know how it is when I do read it!
Dennis is off having his infusions, and I am puttering around, not really getting the things done I had planned to. Check back tomorrow, and maybe I will have made some progress on one of my actual current projects! Fingers crossed. Hope your week is going splendidly.

The white star background fabric is perfect for those Old Glory blocks. I’ve had those days when no one is home so I should get lots accomplished. Instead, the day slips by with not much to show for it!! ⏰
I have almost three yards of the star background, but I kind of wanted to buy more because it is so great. Of course it is sold out everywhere.
hate.that. ugh. I was digging through background fabric in my cabinet and I found this wonderful print. why didn’t I buy more? I only bought 2 yrds. ugh. the hunt is on to find more online.
Hope Dennis’s infusions go well. The book edges are pretty! More pretty flower blocks too! I’ve been working on Maison Bleu. Instead of jelly rolls I’ve been diving in the scraps and sewing pieces! I am enjoying it so much, I find it hard to stop! Although the sewing room does rather look like a hurricane has been in there!
I think the main aspect of the Maison Bleu quilt that I enjoyed was putting the different fabric combinations together. I didn’t use a jelly roll either. I can’t remember if I had fat eighths or fat quarters. Probably fat 8ths because there is not a scrap left!
relatable.
Love those Old Glory blocks in those sweet fabrics and well done in planning to use the blocks you’ve already made along with their yummy fabrics to make a large quilt.
Oh, it’s 71*F here today and our highs all week and weekend are to be in the 70s*F – and Tuesday of next week it may be 86*F! Yikes! What is up with that? Hope we get more cold weather to kill the early bugs!
Wishing you and Dennis well!
Hugs!
Those temperatures sound divine! It has been in the high 60s here and I’ve sat outside with my book in the afternoon in a patch of sunshine. It felt so good.
Looking for the flower block pattern please.
It is a Fig Tree pattern called Sun Flowers. Joanna has a downloadable version on her website:

thank you!
Oh, those flower blocks are very pretty, too! It is always amazing how many different projects you have going at once, all of them equally beautiful.
That book is also a really pretty design and will be fun to read/look at for the foreseeable future.
Have you and Eva had any memorable baking adventures lately?
