I wanted to let you all know that we are doing fine for now. Just so you can see how close we came to being evacuated, the pink area on the diagram above is the mandatory evacuation area. The yellow area is the standby-to-be-evacuated area. That tiny blue dot in the center is where my house is.
The fire is now at over 7000 acres, but has been 10% contained. The temperatures will be a bit lower today, and the humidity a bit higher, which are both better for firefighting. Many additional bulldozers have been brought in to establish fire breaks, and loads of firefighting units from other communities have turned up.
We are not out of danger just yet, but things are looking better.

Nice that you are not having to evacuate. I have been evacuated twice, once for 11 days and then 7 days and it is very unsettling. In 2024 we were at be ready status for about two weeks, but did not have to evacuate. Hard to pick and choose what to take with you – quilts are high priority. My prayers are with all the firefighters who risk their lives to keep all of us safe. Take care.
Oh, I’m glad to hear that! We will still send up prayers, and I echo what Arrowhead Gramma says that our prayers are also with the firefighters. Hope it is well in hand and you can relax soon.
Thank you for keeping us updated. How grateful we are for all those who work to keeps us safe…which also includes all those family and friends who offer us safe places and support in scary times.
That is much better news than last night’s scary possible evacuation in the dark possibility. There are so many fires that firefighting brews and equipment are having to come from all areas. Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way.
Nicole,
I am glad you are not in danger right now. I pray that the firefighters get a handle on containment and you and everyone else stay safe. Of course, always having your most important things ready to go is important but there is one thing I would tell everyone to do even if they think they will never be in a fire situation. Take pictures of everything in your house and I mean everything including your junk drawers. The insurance companies will make it miserable for you to remember everything you had and will fight you every step of the way. Everyone should also make sure their insurance policy has “replacement value” as they will give you so much less to rebuild per square foot than what it actually takes. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for the update. We will continue to pray for all involved.
Good news
I am so glad to hear this! Even though we are clear across the country in Virginia, please know that we all are very concerned for you and your family near the fires. Sending prayers for safety for everyone. xo
Thinking of you. Prayers. Good advice from Carole = pictures pictures.
Thank you so much for up date. Wishes and prayers continued
That is good news please keep us all informed. I will continue to pray for you, Eva and your family plus all that live in areas affected by the fire.
Phew – that’s a relief! That is close indeed!!! And the weather has given a window of opportunity for the fire crews to try to contain it. I will hope they continue to keep it away from you and hope other people are safe too. You could do with some rain, but with things as they have been in the US, the rain has been far too much in places! Such extremes!!!
Thank you for updating us! This sounds like an improvement over yesterday’s report! Do you & Eva have ‘go bags’ packed? And bags for the dogs? Hopefully you won’t need them, but better to be prepared. Stay safe!
Thank you for the update. Saying prayers for you and everyone affected by the fire.
Thank you for the update – so glad you are safe right now. Sending prayers that it will stay that way
Now I am a little nervous for you. You usually blog on Thursday but you haven’t today. So I hope you and Eva are okay! Sending a prayer for you and all the firefighters in each state and country for all your safety!
I’m so happy you are safe. The idea of trying to drive in the dark is so scary. I have a grandson firefighter/paramedic and he is constantly in my thoughts. Hopefully this fire will be fully contained quickly.
Good news for now but it certainly was close!
Huge hugs!
this makes me so angry…..I saw on the news that he now says he’s sorry?! what a complete ass that needs to be held accountable. one of the big fires that started in Washington state was arson. apparently, he’s not sorry. he planned it based on the weather.
so heartbreaking. so much destruction and loss. I’m glad you are now clear of it.
He also totally lied to the reporter conducting the TV interview. He was asked, “Have you ever been involved in anything like this before?” And the man answered, “No, never.” He had been cited in 2018 for starting a wildfire under the exact same conditions: using equipment that caused sparks in unsafe conditions.
I’ve heard that everyone is being allowed back in to check on their properties. Can you imaging pulling up to your house and finding it a smoking ruin? And all the animals that couldn’t be trucked out and were just let loose? Cal Fire workers discovered a herd of goats practically dying of thirst and rescued them. Heartbreaking is right.
