  1. Great news about the eye treatments!
Yes, fabric prices are climbing through the roof. And when shipping is added, it’s really too much. How aggravating!

    1. Frustrating for sure. I am having enough trouble motivating myself to get in there and sew, and a set back like running out of fabric is enough to have me just shut the door and see “Be Back in the Fall”.

  2. Super news that your eyes are improving. Not so good news – the prices of shipping! Have to say it is outrageously expensive to even post a card or letter nowadays over here too. A friend asked if I would quilt her quilts and I said to her to find someone closer to her (she’s a huge distance away) because of the shipping costs to and fro! I don’t think she realised it!

At least you will have enough fabric to complete. Loving those star blocks with the 9 patches.

    1. I recently sent three little notebooks to my son in Ireland. The value of the notebooks was around $20. It cost $34 to mail them. Not happening again, that is for sure.

  3. Your blocks are beautiful! I must say blue is my favorite color, I love red and use it a lot but blue is still my favorite. I’m trying so hard to use from stash. Unless I’m making a special quilt for someone like my granddaughter, I will be able to find just what I want in my stash. Prices have really increased. In 2003 I helped a friend open a quilt shop, at the time Moda fabric was $6.95!
Congratulations on your eyes! The wonders of modern medicine! I have glaucoma which is well managed with eye drops but in the event that the drops become less effective there are surgical options available.
Sorry your trip didn’t go as planned, it was a good thought. ☺️

    1. Prices on everything are insane. I sent to my local Savemart this morning and they wanted $9 for a regular size jar of Best Foods mayo. $4.95 for a box of pasta. It is out of control.

    1. In the 1980s when my grandma had macular degeneration there was no treatment at all. It is incredible how things have progressed in that field.

  4. Seeing the stand-in doctor isn’t a bad thing. After his original doctor retired my husband was pleased with his new one. He has some up-to-date knowledge about frequency of shots & treatments available & it was a sort of ‘second opinion’ that was promising. We take our dog on the 2-hour each way eye shot appointment days & she snoozes her way to & from. Plus the doctor’s office is in a quiet neighborhood so dog walks/sniffs are easy to accomplish. I’ll bet that your friends are more than happy to have you stay on appointment days! As for the price of fabric & not being able to get ¼-yard cuts, I agree it’s annoying! Quilting has never been an inexpensive hobby, but nowadays it’s becoming even more so! Cheers to a restful weekend!

    1. The stand-in doctor looked like a movie star; he was so handsome. He was my dad’s doctor, so I had met him before, and he actually seemed to remember me, or my dad’s name at least. His injection technique was amazing: I barely felt it. I told him that, and he said he recently tried to figure out how many injections he has given, and he thinks it is over 50,000. Guess he’s experienced.

  5. Sorry about the traffic but great news about your Cadillac of medicine! What an improvement in the last twenty years! When my husband first found out he had macular degeneration, a mild case, he went around the house for months saying he was going to die. It was so upsetting for him! I had been dealing with painful fibromyalgia for two many years by then and still teaching full time and dealing with housework, laundry, and cooking. I was just quiet about his unhinging. Of course we are all going to die! His vision is still better than mine! He has long ago stopped moaning. It reminds me of the saying that only a man with a cold suffers more than a woman who has been through childbirth! That is a mean saying but sometimes it is so true…

  6. What a relief that your eyes are improving! It’s amazing how medicine advances almost daily. The traffic is usually awful on 580 add to it a massive fire and it’s armageddon. I hope today will be a restful day:)

    1. Apparently, the medical supply warehouse (over 1 million square feet) was a total loss. And their sprinkler system failed to work, so good luck getting insurance to pay out. What a mess.

  7. Great news on your eyes– I think that’s been a big part of losing your sewing mojo. I do like where the Granny quilt is going– it took me awhile before the light bulb went of as to why she’s calling it that, duh! Can’t get enough red, white, and blue quilts right now. Why did Minick and Simpson have to miss this year!! Also having a creative drought right now, I think it’s just because the weather is beautiful– I’m not a reader, but the garden easily fills the time!
