My quilter just texted me that this quilt never arrived to her. What she got was an empty Priority Mail box labeled “Received Unsealed Without Contents”.

I am in total shock.

Hello, I’m Nicole, an enthusiastic quilter and fabric lover. This blog is mainly about my quilting journey, but I share some of my other interests as well, which include reading, cooking, decorating, lifestyle, and my family. When I am not quilting, I am reading, and will share monthly book reviews in this space. I love to hear back from my followers and enjoy getting to know you.

Nicole, That made me sick to read that. What is wrong with this world?? What do you do now? Hang in there, lets pray that this story will still have a happy ending. Don’t give up hope.
Oh no, that’s awful. I don’t believe it was an error on your part – not the first time you have wrapped up the package and I’m sure it was extremely secure. That looks rather dodgy – I hope you get it back.
That just makes me sad and sick at the same time. I am so sorry that happened to you. You want to believe the best in humanity, but it’s getting harder and harder.
Oh no! I am speechless.
Sick about it,mad about it and so very sad about it.
Oh my goodness!! Are there any next steps, Nicole?? I am so sorry and sad this has happened. No words really.
My heart sank when I read this. I agree with KimS & hope that prayers will bring a happy ending – already 🙏
USPS rates are going up fast but their service is going downhill faster!!! We have been missing several pieces of mail over the past year but nothing compared to a beautiful quilt. I made that quilt along with you – lots of work & a beautiful masterpiece!! My heart goes out to you. I hope you get results.
Noooooo! It can’t be!!! Oh, that is just terrible news!!! I don’t even know what to say!!! I am so sorry, Nicole.
This is sad that someone would open and steal such a valuable quilt like this.
OMG why would someone open a box like that. I am so sorry. I hope this resolves with a good outcome.
Terrible news! Hope somehow that quilt is returned. Hugs….
So sorry…😔 Any chance that tracking may have some info?
Oh Nicole, I’m so sorry. I hope that your quilt is somehow returned to you. Such a beautiful quilt!
Devastating!!
So sorry! Good luck with trying to claim insurance…..
There are no words, just heartbreaking!
That makes me pretty mad. I’ve had pretty good service with USPS but this is just horrible. I sure hope the quilt shows up for you. Boohiss.
OH NO!!! Can you check with your local USPS or your tracking to see where it traveled along the way in case the post office has it? Being that the USPS put the sticker on it, it would lead you to believe that it was opened somewhere in the hands of the USPS. I hope you can get some answers and a return of your beautiful quilt top.
I’m so sad to hear that your hard work and creativity have been lost in the mail. I do hope that it will somehow show up somehow. Did you happen to have tracking on the package? Perhaps the PO can find the last place it was tracked.
Was the fact that it was a quilt indicated in any way on the box or paperwork?
Was the package clearly cut open? Or had it somehow come untaped?
If you know the route it took, I would look up long arm quilters, quilt groups, and quilt shops at those stops and send them photos to be on the look out for it. This has worked for other quilters with stolen quilts.
Aye-yai-yai!! That is horrible!
Wow, no words. That really stinks.
Shocking, but not, is all I can say. The USPS needs to remove the final ‘S’ because their ‘service’ has become more & more unreliable. As Vickie suggested I would contact national quilt groups & magazine publishers to post to their membership about keeping a lookout for the quilt top. Perhaps a large organization such as Paducah’s quilt museum or the one in Lincoln, NE might have contact information for some large groups. I know that has worked for people in the past & it’s worth a try. Shocking.
Oh, no!! This is so upsetting. I’m sorry your quilt top is missing:(
You must be absolutely sick about losing your beautiful work of art. I so hope you’ll be able to recover it
Oh Nicole, my heart literally aches for you and the loss of this gorgeous quilt top. Will say a prayer that it will eventually be returned to you. I personally don’t see how the box could have opened on it’s own, as the adhesive on the Priority boxes is very strong and seals tight. Take care.
just shocking.
This is heartbreaking Nicole. I am so sorry this has happened to you.
Saying a prayer that your quilt will find its way back to you🙏
There is no way whatever amount of insurance you have on this package can repay you for the hours you put into ironing the fabric, cutting the fabric squares, sewing the squares, then ironing each seam as you sewed, reading and rereading all the directions, assembling each piece of fabric from its parts, sewing and then ironing again, etc.! I always hope my quilts arrive at their destination safely. Now I know that some quilts do not arrive at all. I am so sorry! Something is rotten not only in Denmark.
Oh No!! 😱 that’s absolutely terrible- I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful quilt 😢
Oh NO! I am so sorry to hear this. Isn’t there a web site that will post lost or stolen quilts? Years ago someone told me to not indicate that the package contained a quilt. Just fabric. I’m sure you knew that, but others may not. I hope you get your beautiful quilt back.
Most mail services, now, you do not have to list the contents. Use those services.
Service reliability varies dramatically by region. It really depends on where you are shipping, which service is best.
“Blanket” is the safer term we used to use when we had to list.
I am so sorry! This is the worst! I actually almost went through this…my quilter hadn’t received a quilt in ten days that should have arrived in 1-2. Thankfully, we opened a case and the package was found, sent back to the sender and able to be shipped out again to the quilter. It sure gave us a scare.
Can you open a case with your shipper? I don’t believe mine would have been found without opening a case.
Hi Sherri, Thank goodness you got your quilt back! I went in to speak to my local post office and talked to the postmaster, who told me that items that come out of their packaging get sent to a lost and found hub in Atlanta. You can file a claim (which I did) with a photo of your missing item and with luck, it could be returned to you. Since my quilt is pretty distinctive, hopefully it will stand out and be noticed. I can only hope. It was a nightmare come true, for sure.
I am retired from USPS. You need to go to your local po and file a report on this missing quilt. I’m sure it had a tracking number on your original receipt. It’s possible the package came open in processing. Take your picture of the quilt to file with it.
Hi Lynn, I did speak to my local postmaster and filed a claim. Items that are separated from their packaging go to a lost and found hub in Atlanta. With any luck, my photo of the quilt will be noticed and matched up with my contact information.
Nicole,
I am so so sorry this has happened to you.
