I got a bit of sewing done over the weekend. My goal was to get caught up on a couple of BOMs I am doing. The blocks above are for the Riley Blake Challenge 2026, a reliably fun sew-along. This one is a block of the week project, with block designs being provided for free by Riley Blake designers.

This is block 13, Patchwork Star, designed by Liza Taylor. A couple blocks in this sew-along are framed, a look I think I like.

Next, I did another Sewcialites block. The block of the week wasn’t for me, so I substituted something that fits better with my other blocks.

This is a block from a Nancy Rink pattern called Misty Meadow. It was the right size and I thought the French General fabrics would work for the blended patchwork effect I am going for.

I may actually use this setting for my Sewcialites blocks. I can make my center medallion work and I do like the layout a lot. I will not be doing any applique.
It was cold and rainy here the entire weekend. April has been a particularly crummy month as far as weather and so many other things are concerned. May had better arrive full of sunshine and blue skies or I don’t know what I’ll do. I did make a lemon snacking cake that cheered me up a lot. Plus I have been eating some delicious chocolate that a friend sent me. Better than medicine to cure what ails me. Wishing you all a great week.

Yes, all in all April 2026 was not very kind to you. I hope May is much brighter and happier.
You sure do have some pretty blocks made.
Here’s to a sunnier May!
I hope so!
Since your blocks look so cheerful, I am hoping it means your eyes are doing better! Our April weather here in Arizona has been glorious… sure wish we could share some of our sunshine and get some of your rain. Still hoping and praying your quilts make it home to you…it make take awhile for that facility to get all their lost goodies sorted but it could be very fortuitous to have your name/address written and attached to the plastic bag…at least, that is what I am thinking. Have a lovely week!
I think there is a small improvement in my eyes. They are slightly better than two weeks ago. From past experience, I know it takes time for the swelling behind the retina to settle down. That is what makes things so blurry.
I sure wish you could share sunshiine too! It has stopped raining and was quite nice earlier this morning. I took Archie out and it was so pleasant, we just kept going on his neighborhood sniffari. Clouds are back now though.
The lemon cake sounds just perfect! Good you for moving on with your BOMs. I’m enjoying watching the Riley Blake blocks develop. I agree that this week’s block wouldn’t match.
Next time i make the lemon cake, I think I will bake it in an 8″ round pan, rather than the 9″ square one. It seemed a bit dry, even though I cooked it for the minimum time.
Your wonderful fabrics and the block patterns certainly work well together, you are creating such beautiful quilts!
The Lemon Snack Cake surely made a gloomy April day brighter, yum!
Fingers crossed that the lost quilt and runners are found and returned. Thank goodness you did have labels on them. 🤞🏻
I know, there is something about lemon that seems so springy. I have been craving lemon chicken lately too.
I had a card with my contact info inside the plastic bag the quilts were wrapped in. As long as the bag didn’t open up or get ripped, there is a chance the card will get them back to me. I don’t even care about the runners, I just want my sampler quilt top returned.
I, too, like the Misty Meadow setting for your quilt. The blocks you made this weekend are very nice. A frame works well on the Patchwork Star. I’m a lover of yellow & if you add in that it’s lemon cake, what’s not to like?? 🍋💛 Have a great week!
You too Jan!
I really like the Misty Meadow quilt pattern too.
I hope your vision situation is improving…must be as you are doing some sewing! Thank you for your recommendation of the Snacking Cakes cookbook. So far I’ve made the walnut cake with maple glaze (not enough maple flavor…) and the lemon olive oil cake…which was amazing! So clever with the directions for different size pans. Now I am heading up to my sewing room to prep for a fun project day with a friend…what is better than shopping in your own stash?! Thank you for all your fun posts.
I have made a couple of the recipes in that book and they have been good. I think I made the cake with the maple glaze, but don’t remember thinking it needed to be more maple-y. I should revisit that one.
I really really like that setting your are considering…..
That pattern cost a fortune, comparatively, so I am determined to use it.
I have a suggestion in regards to the quilt top that was lost at the Atlanta post office. I live in Marietta Georgia and had so many problems getting mail delivered. I contacted my US senator John Ossoff and filed a complaint about the postal delivery. He responded, a supervisor from the USPS called me and I now get my mail on a daily basis.
I enjoy seeing your beautiful quilts.
Love your blocks! I think your setting idea will work nicely and bonus for no appliqué! Will need to try that lemon snacking cake, anything lemon is a yes for me!
