Just in time for your holiday reading, I have seven suggestions of Christmas reading that I know will be a hit.
The Last Christmas in Paris by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb. Remember this from a couple of years ago? Many of you took my recommendation and said it was the best Christmas themed book you had ever read. I agree, and loved it.
So, guess what? There is a second book by this author duo!!
Christmas with the Queen by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb is available! And yes, part of the book is from the (fictionalized) point of view of Queen Elizabeth!! I saw the paperback at my local indie bookstore and snapped it up right away. The shop must be expecting it to fly out the door because they had a stack of ten copies on a table! The main characters are the Queen, a young, recently widowed chef named Jack Devereux, who has been hired to work at the Royal retreat Sandringham House, and Olive Carter, an aspiring journalist at the BBC. The setting is 1952 in Buckingham Palace and Sandringham at Christmas. Young Queen Elizabeth is trying to draft her Christmas message to her new subjects to continue the tradition her late father started. I have just started this one and love it so far!
Holiday Romance by Catherine Walsh is a holiday book I picked because it is set partly in Ireland. It is the friends-to-lovers trope and is super cute and cozy. Reading it now and enjoying it a lot. Molly and Andrew have been flying home from Chicago to Dublin together every Christmas for eight years. They sit together on the plane, and each goes their separate ways when they land in Ireland. Except for that final year when the weather causes flight delays…
In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren. Have you read anything by this author duo (yes, another one!)? I read this a couple of years ago and liked it. Mae’s family has always celebrated Christmas at her family’s beloved Utah mountain cabin along with two other families. The parents announce that this is the last year there for Christmas because they are selling the property. Somehow, Mae gets conked on the head, and she wakes up to find herself starting the holiday all over again. Sort of a Groundhog Day situation. She has to figure out how to break the time loop, save the home from being sold, and discover true love under the mistletoe. It was fun.
The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox is a book I got to read for last Christmas. This one is about identical twins who swap identities twelve days before Christmas. Chef Charlie Goodwin is the star chef on a holiday baking show, and her sister Cass runs the local bakery in their hometown. Much confusion and interesting situations arise during the swap. A rugged firefighter and a handsome physician’s assistant factor into the story. It’s a good one!
The Twelve Dates of Christmas by Jenny Bayliss was a hoot. When it comes to relationships, Kate Turner says “Bah humbug”, as her sleepy town of Blexford, England, isn’t exactly brimming with prospects. Then, her best friend signs her up on a dating site, and Kate embarks on twelve dates before Christmas. Predictably, each date is worse than the last, and Kate is about to throw in the towel when she realizes that sometimes love is found where you least expect it. Adorable and laugh-out-loud funny.
One Day in December by Josie Silver is a book I have not read yet, but have on my TBR list. Laurie doesn’t believe in love at first sight until she spies a man through a bus window and knows he is “the one”. She misses him in the crowd and spends a year searching for him in the London transport system, with no luck. Then, she is at a Christmas party, and her friend introduces her to her new boyfriend. And of course it’s “him”, the man from the bus. The book is described as “a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.” Sounds intriguing, right?
Have you got a favorite holiday book suggestion? Let us know in the comments! Or if you have read any of the ones I mentioned above, do tell how you enjoyed them!

December was a big reading month for me for decades. During school and college years, I read a lot over my break. Then in later years, when my kids were on school breaks and the schedule was lighter, I read a lot.
Thanks! Great time of year to relax and read Christmas. I have two of these books on order from my library.
I don’t read a lot of “romance” but enjoyed One Day in December last year. Will certainly give Christmas With the Queen a try. Have you read Mr Dickens and his Carol by Samantha Silva? It’s very good. I listened to The Best Christmas Pageant Ever last year and I can’t wait to share it with my 6 and 10 year old granddaughters. Hilarious and heartwarming.
They all look interesting! I’m swamped with cookie baking for Christmas giving so something audio would work best for me. Yesterday I caught up on a couple of podcasts that I missed in the Thanksgiving chaos. Thanks, as always, for the recommendations!
