  1. Very few people do Halloween here. Our next door neighbour asked if she could bring her grandchildren over for trick or treat (again not something people do here, but happy to participate if asked) – they were only little and looked so cute in their costumes – and she brought the sweeties (bought by the mum so she knew what they would be getting – good idea in this day and age) which were handed over to me.
I do love the autumnal decorations though and your leafy runner is so pretty. Archie is sitting on a very nice quilt too! It all looks very inviting and adds a lovely warm and cosy touch to the home.
    Cheers Nicole xx

    1. kerry, where do you live? I love seeing the kids run around going door to door. we get a fair amount of kids but not the hundreds of kids other neighborhoods get.

          1. Yes, I clicked on the wrong bit to send, so it went to Nicole. Oops, my fault! Yes, I live in wet and wild Devon in England. We are getting a bit of a battering at the moment. It is the Season of Mud (well named by a lady in Devon a few years ago – describes it perfectly). Usually lasts throughout winter and into spring. I envy Canada with their set seasons – the maritime climate here is a bit hit and miss! Another reason for not going trick or treating – it’s quite often wet all across the country.
Only a few people do trick or treating because while it was new after the ET film, it led to people abusing the new idea of fun. Youngsters and older people vandalised and pretty much made a lot of elderly people scared. The police got fed up and people just stopped participating unless by prior arrangement with parents of the children. I know my sister-in-law used to be a bit of a horror and she and her friend went round demanding money from older neighbours. Thankfully she’s grown into a really nice woman now. My mum used to turn out the lights and not answer the door and I think many others used to do that so that it fizzled out in the main. I think Scotland had a similar tradition, perhaps that’s how it came about in America. But not sure about that.
It is a pity, because it is a fun thing to do and it makes people and children happy – probably dentists the happiest of all! LOL!
Our version is more of a Harvest Festival at the local churches.
A few people do have autumn leaf wreaths on their doors, but around here (especially this weekend) they tend to get blown off in the wind unless really anchored down – some poor tatty leaves remaining! But still brings a smile when I see one intact. I feel the need to nip off to the garden centre and see what decorations they have for some cheering up!

    2. I love all things fall. Today it is dark and dreary and I am all bundled up in a sweater having a cup of tea. My house is all decorated and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
My son in law lives in a neighborhood where folks from rural areas specifically come to on Halloween for trick or treating. They get hundreds of kids, but they are walking around with their parents, not unattended. It is all very fun and civilized. Ryan sets up a table with plastic glasses and his wine that he offers to the parents. We all sit outside in the driveway around a little chiminea fire and enjoy seeing the kids’ costumes.

      1. my next door neighbor had a margarita bar set up last year for the adults. bouncy house for the kids and they all had a blast. it was kind of wild but also fun. the kids ran up and down the street in a large group and just had fun. it was much more vibrant than my old street in a very good way.

  2. We use the command “look” for pictures. It works for many things.

I really admire that you take the time to decorate for the holidays. I too have a stash, but the holidays sneak up on me and then I am sad I missed the opportunity

    1. Fall is my favorite time of year to decorate. I have so much fun with it. I start in September and keep adding and substracting things through the end of November.

  3. Your house looks very festive! I love all your table runners and need to make some for me! I can’t believe I have never made a table runner. I do decorate for Halloween and fall. One of my favorites is to bring out pictures from previous Halloweens dressed in costumes or of my niece and nephews when they were kids and dressed up. It’s gotten harder to find Halloween frames. I do this for Christmas too. Everyone loves seeing the holiday pictures.

    1. I have a few photos from past Halloweens that I love putting out. People do enjoy seeing them and remembering the amazing costumes my family has come up with over the years.

  4. I love to decorate- especially for fall. I have a few Halloween specific things that I just got out this morning. Autumn colors are what I love. Your mantel is beautiful!

  5. I love to decorate for fall! And Halloween. I go through several bags of candy unless the weather is blustery. I used to like to put up some outside decorations, but its not so safe anymore – things disappear. Not in our block? but there have been some thefts in the neighborhood. I always enjoy your fall decor and your Halloween party posts. Archie is such a good boy and always so darn cute.

    1. My neighborhood is dark and quiet on Halloween, but a few streets away where Eva lives with her daddy, they get hundreds of kids! One year I counted over 280 kids coming around for candy.

  6. Nicole,
Your flying geese/log cabin table runner is really nice! My favorite is your haunted Halloween house. Eva looked so grown up in the picture from your post a few days ago!

    1. Oh my gosh, she is growing into a young woman so quickly. I missed her help putting out the Halloween decor because she is so busy with sports after school.

  7. Your energy to accomplish all that decorating is impressive. I find myself whittling down what I bring out as the years go by but do enjoy seasonal changes so thank you for the glimpse at all of yours, especially your seasonal quilts-wonderful!

  8. Archie wins the Best Dog contest today! I always enjoy seeing your Fall & Halloween decorations. You’ve spurred me on to pull out my runners this weekend! 🍁🌽🎃

    1. What is so great about Archie is that he doesn’t mess about with my decorations once they are out. I think we can relax this Christmas and put out the good stuff we kept under wraps the past two Christmasses.

  9. MY CROWS!!! MY CROWS!!!! I love them almost as much as I love your little weepy snowmen you put out at xmas.

    1. I know how you love them! I wondered if you would comment on them! I should put them in my will for you. Ryan has already claimed the weepy snowmen.

      1. Ryan is a good egg. he deserves the weepy snowmen. I’ll fight him for the crows….CROW WARS, THE APOCALYPSE IS HERE

  10. What delightful Halloween decor, especially the table runners that are under the decorations! Isn’t it fun to take a block, chosen fabrics, and make something that delights you down to your heart and soul – like the leaf table runner. Perfect!
I have some of my autumn quilts up but lack the energy to do much more. Bummer!
    Water polo at school???!

    Hugs!

    1. Oh yes, she is practicing with the girls’ water polo team every day after school. It is a big commitment.
I am changing out the quilt on my bed today for a Halloween one. I was freezing last night so I think it may be time to get out the goose down duvet as well.

  11. Our weather is so peculiar this fall; it will be 80+ for another week! So the trees are late and I’m not too inspired right yet. I do have out my fall wallhanging and will get to the pumpkins etc maybe next week.
I won’t be making anything new as we have a very close friend who is quite ill, and I’m finishing up a quilt for his upcoming chemo.

    1. So sorry to hear about your friend Sue. I hope the quilt you are making provides some cheer.
I know how hard it is to get on board with a new season when the old one refuses to let go! Our weather made an abrupt change as soon as the calendar said it was October. I am now wishing for some days with blue skies and crisp days–it’s been rainy and grey.

  12. Always love how you decorate for the holidays! You’re very lucky to have so much storage and be that organized!
