I am happy to say I have kept up with the Pumpkin Gatherings sew-along hosted by Lisa Bongean. A new block assignment has been released each week during July and August. Up until this latest block (shown above), the weekly tasks have been quite easy. This one was a challenge, I won't lie!
These are the blocks we have made so far. Even though at times we had to make as many as 24 blocks in one week, the blocks have been pretty simple.
This past week's assignment was the center medallion for the quilt. Just one block, but whew, it was a doozy. So many bias edges and triangles that had to line up exactly right. Lisa warned us "If you don't line those triangles up just right, it will mess you up". She wasn't kidding.
There was this unit, which I thought was difficult until…
this one.
The sewing gods must have been looking out for me, because I didn't have to do much seam ripping and the units came out pretty well. Don't look too closely.
Overall, I am pleased with the block, although it seems to have rather a Southwestern feel to it, don't you think? It will be striking in the center of this fall quilt. Next week we put it all together!

This looks great! You did a wonderful job with all those bias edges 👏 I think this is a beautiful quilt
I think you’re right about it looking like a SW block, but when you put it with the rest it’s a good fit. Congratulations on keeping up with the weekly blocks!
Holy doodles!!! But you did amazing, Nicole!!
That center block looks pretty perfect to me. Good job!
Loving the colors of this one. Your center is the star of the show!
oh.my.gawd. that is just gorgeous! so tricky but worth it. I really love the fabric you chose. I loved the bundle when I saw it on FQS. I’m living vicariously through you….
Beautiful center block! It definitely looks like a doozy!
Wowzers (shades of Inspector Gadget!) that is some block and well done in succeeding to get it made. Applause, applause!
We’re off to the library, grocery, and post office so away I go …
Hugs!
Nicole,
Thank you for sharing all the pieces and steps it takes to make such wonderful quilts. I thoroughly enjoy your blog posts. I have used many of your tips to advance my piecing skills. I especially appreciated the starching the fabric post which has elevated my projects! Thank you for sharing that.
May I ask a question about thread color? With all the projects you have on the go at once, how do you handle thread color? Do you have a couple standard colors that hide well in all your projects or are you switching colors all the time?
