Remember these fabulous blocks from last year? The fabric is Hey Boo by Lella Boutique and the pattern is Moonlight from the Halloween Memories book by Susan Ache. I was working on it last summer when Dennis got ill and my world unraveled.

I was super organized with the block preparation, so it didn't take me long to get up to speed. The blocks are a bit involved, but I had put the components for each block in a little baggie!

Each baggie contains the materials to make one paper pieced square in a square unit, four flying geese units, four completed corner half square triangles and strips and posts for the little lattice. There is a lot that goes into making each block, so I was so happy to see most of the work was done already except to sew the blocks together.

The colors in the Halloween collection are unexpected. Orange, black, pink, purple and cream. There is a green also, but I'm not using it.

My original idea was to use this adorable pieced center. However, I just don't think it is going to work. Unfortunately, the size is just all wrong to work into the pattern with the other blocks without looking super awkward. Oh well. I will do something else with that little Witch and her Frankenbuddy.

Seriously, how cute is that? His little fangs are the size of grains of rice, so piecing this was no walk in the park. What should I do with it? Any ideas?

What about using it centered on the back of the quilt? Or what if you put it in the lower left hand corner of the top, instead of the center? Resizing it to fit might be easier and less apparent, adding on to two sides instead of four. I’m working on an orange, pink and cream halloween quilt too. I like the softness, no harsh contrasts.
Cute, cute, cute quilt blocks and well done you to have those baggies with all the parts for one block each!
I think it would be a waste to put such a delightful witch and Frank on the quilt’s back. Perhaps a add creepy border or two and hang in behind your locked screen or glass door?
Hugs!
The center is too cute to not figure out how to use on this top. Not knowing the dimensions of the blocks, I roughly calculate that the space (as you now have it laid out) will shrink by 3”. I would add light strips around the center to make it float within the border blocks.
Those center guys sill make the block pop. Too cute to not use together.
Maybe some sashing even through the small quilt blocks. A bit thinner horizontally and thicker vertically? 🤔 or just a ribbon border or other fancy piecing on the 2 sides? Too cute not to use in that quilt!
The ‘Moonlight’ blocks are wonderful, I love them set with the hour glass blocks. I don’t know what the borders are for the quilt finish but I like the simplicity of the setting. For Little Witch and her Franken buddy I’d probably do a narrow border then a simple pieced piano key border. Both are great projects! Hard to believe all that’s happened in the past year. My question…how did we ever quilt before there were zip lock bags? 😂 Have a good day!
Hard to tell the size but would a pillow work? I like the idea of putting it on the back of the quilt or adding borders and creating a wall hanging. You are very creative with holiday displays and you could incorporate it somewhere as a wall quilt( or on a chair, coffee/ kitchen table/counter etc. It’s definitely too cute not to use!
I vote for the panel as a wall/front door hanging with a skinny border. I just finished a quilt that I tried and tried to fit a panel into, and I finally gave up. It will find another quilt someday. I remember when you started Moonlight and thought at the time it would be time-consuming to make. You did a great job on it.
What a difference a year makes! And, being super organized has paid off for you once again! I’m leaning toward using the ‘panel’ for a Halloween wall hanging. How about a narrow border in the green you’re not using then make either a checkerboard or piano key border for the outside?
I love this quilt! Those intricate pieced blocks are amazing, but don’t really read “Halloween” without the cute center. So you could have a beautiful, more traditional pieced quilt with the blocks by themselves and use the characters for a separate wall hanging, or add some sashing around the characters and have a large Halloween bed quilt. Super cute either way!
Nicole,
I copied blau.bear.nka (instagram) with the added borders and spiders and made it into a wall hanging. The inner border with a checkerboard boarder suggestion above is a good idea. Since it is an odd size, you could put an inner border on it and then an outer border with blocks like the nine patch blocks in the corners and use how many ever you would like.
I remember that center but I don’t remember those incredibly elaborate blocks? man, thank goodness you are organized because that would be a bear to try to pick up otherwise.
ugh. heat is here….makes it impossible to walk the dog. try to stay cool…
I didn’t want to rant, but you sold me on using those two things together last year! My goodness that center is adorable. I agree with Pam— the math might work out where you just need a thin border for it to work. The design wall is deceiving! Interested to see what you do because I was going to make my HO HO HO piece into a larger quilt. Xox
