Alternate Setting Plan for Designer Mystery 2024

I gave up early on with last year's Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery project because I didn't care for the setting. As the sew-along went on, I found that I also wasn't crazy about a number of the blocks. I put the fabric and patterns away, thinking at some point I would drag it all out and see if I could come up with an alternate plan.

I seem to have a real bee in my bonnet this summer to get past projects finished, so I added Designer Mystery 2024 to my list. I am happy to say I have come up with an idea. Erica Arndt is doing a YouTube Sew With Me program this year and her setting and many of her blocks will work out splendidly for my fabric from this abandoned project. The block sizes for both sew-alongs are 12 inches, so they are interchangeable. The patterns are free and she does a tutorial for each block.

You can get an idea of what the setting will look like from my photo above. A taupe lattice will surround the twelve blocks, and a darling bow design is incorporated into the top border of the quilt. I like this simple design much better than the DM24 setting.

These are my blocks one and two. The colors in the quilt are red, aqua and pink. The block on the left is from one of the DM24 patterns and the one on the right is Erica Arndt's. It's clever how she worked the ribbon streamers into the block itself. I think it is a very cool effect.

So, one more UFO to the list, but I am feeling up for the challenge. I took a break from finishing up Strawberry Garden, but will get back to it some time this week.

Hope your week is going well!
