Strawberry Garden

Have you heard of the Strawberry Garden sew-along? It is based on a book by Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree & Co. I bought the book and the fabric required to make this project last year. The sew-along has been going on for at least 9 months, but I have yet to make any blocks. I thought it would be a fun project to work on during the Spring and Summer, so I dived in and made my first blocks over the weekend.

The fabrics are so pretty for this project. The fabrics I have used are mostly from the Jelly & Jam collection by Fig Tree, but there are others from my stash tossed in there as well. Each block has a fabric chart, which is helpful if you are using the exact fabrics shown or want to use your stash to re-create the look of the actual quilt. My fabrics have all been starched and ready to go for months!

These are my month one blocks all done. And look at me; I actually got the fabric placement of the "geese" and "sky" in the right places. Nothing like actually paying attention to what you are doing when you are sewing. Month two will be three blocks that look like strawberries–so darn cute, even though they kind of look more like pineapples!

The book is available at Fat Quarter Shop. The program is a sew-along, but I'm not doing any of those this year (right?). I am just dabbling along at my own pace as the spirit moves me.

  1. Very ironic timing! I am just getting ready to start Strawberry Social for my granddaughter’s May birthday.
It is similar, but the points go down, not up. And the leaf is different.
(I agree, points up looks like a pineapple, not a strawberry. I would consider fixing those blocks if you have enough fabric. There is Strawberry Social. There may be other strawberry patterns out there. You may be able to use the same pattern you have and just flip the points.)
Somehow I am doing two quilts (same block, different fabrics) simultaneously right now. Usually I am one at a time. I have one more block to complete on one, three on the other. Then, sashing/corner stones, and bindings. Hopefully done with both by the end of next weekend.
Very eager to start on Strawberry Social, May deadline.

  2. Wow, that’s quite a sampler! Somewhere I have a pattern that is all strawberries which might be fun to start on. I’ve decided that it works better for me on these sewalongs if I just go at my own pace. It’ll get done and I will have enjoyed it. I’m doing that with a medallion-type quilt and using those blocks as leader/enders.

  3. I finished this top in 2023, it was a Fig Tree BOM. I didn’t like the strawberry blocks and replaced them with bloom blocks. Those Fig Tree patterns are a lot of work, but so worth the time and effort. Enjoy.

  4. Reading “Life’s too Short”. I love it and am hoping for a happy ending. Have a safe trip with your husband and we will all wait to hear from you regarding his progress.

  5. Just discovered I missed a post! What a lovely discovery this morning. So I must weigh in— there are no red pineapples, and once you stitch them next to their adjacent blocks, the bottom will be more pointy and thus more strawberry-ish! I bought this book and I also bought Christmas Figs— both on my bucket list, but not this year. Looking good on all your progress this month. Xox
