Maybe I Have Too Many Unread Books…

I won't lie, I buy a lot of books. I belong to Book of the Month club, plus I make a lot of purchases on Amazon and through indie bookstores. This batch in the photo above are the most recent acquisitions.

My over flow shelf in the living room. To be fair, the stack in the middle are my husband's books.

These shelves are embarrassing. A few of these books I have read, but most are titles that I have purchased over the past few years and haven't gotten to yet.

This is a little cart I purloined from Eva. She used to keep art supplies on it, and I swiped it to use in my bedroom next to the chaise lounge where I like to read. It isn't working so well because I tend to forget I have these.

Huh? The book on the left is new, and I had a sinking feeling that I might already own it. Um, nope, I just happen to have another book with the exact same title.

So now you know. Not only am I a clothes horse and a fabric hoarder, I also have a book addiction.

  1. Guilty as charged, I won’t tell you how many book cases are in my house! Apparently I am in great company! I have a small mobile Little Free Library (although it’s not always out in this weather) where I manage to divest myself of a few. My daughter was an English major so I thought she might swap around with me. Turns out we don’t have the same taste in reading. Meh – I figure some library will inherit a good collection!

  2. Funny how we all deal with our addictions differently. I read voraciously, too, but don’t want zillions of books everywhere. So I’ve abandoned “dead tree books” and read only digitally. So many benefits: not books everywhere to dust or clutter up, I can read in bed and make the iPad show books with white type of black, if my eyes are tired I can adjust the font size, and I can organize my books into collections on my Kindle app so it’s easy to find them in various ways. When I travel, I always have my library with me. Easy-squeezy!

  3. I have found kindle unlimited for quick reads and cozy mystery series. I do have a few authors whose books I buy, but we have no place to put more so now I use the library too. Anything to keep my book habit!

  4. There are far worse things you could be addicted to! I do most of my reading on my Kindle now, but do have a few books around the house. You do what makes you happy! I just have a tiny house and no room for extras!

  5. That’s a lotta’ books! I’ve been using my Kindle for 12-15 years & now prefer it. Although, I don’t complain if I’m reading an actual book now & then. My friend lives in a small mountain community about an hour outside of town (when the weather is good; longer if it’s been snowing). She installed a book exchange in front of her property & it’s used every day. Residents appreciate the convenience & summer tourists stop to choose something to read as they pass by on their way into Yellowstone. 📚📚📚

  6. I have quite a few print books but the last few years, as I’m trying to downsize, I rely on my local library. I especially love using Overdrive for reading e-books. They don’t cost anything and I don’t have to find shelf space to store them. I love my Kindle Paperwhite!

  7. I have been Audio only for 25+ years (CD’s from library and then Audible). My husband has been 95% audio since the days of books on cassette from the library.
But we had to deal with the previous print books. We all went thru them. The kids took their own. It was quite the job. I sold and donated a lot of books (hundreds). I also sold extra bookshelves from all over the house.
I do not understand how we ended up with so many adult books, we have always been a big library family.
Mostly what I kept are children’s and YA. I send books from my living room to our granddaughter about once a month. Right now, mostly board books. I also sent a very large box of Dr Seuss. There is no point in son/DIL buying duplicates of what we already have.
The rule now is all the books have to fit on the shelves in the living room. If you get a new book, a book must leave the property to make room. My husband found large forgotten stack in his closet a few months ago, he had to make hard decisions.

  8. me too.. and proud of it! nothing worse than needing a book to read and not having the perfect one on hand (to tie me over to when the library sends notice of the next on my holds list). its my book “stash”! mine are kept in a plastic storage box in the basement. when’s the next book fair!?!
PS. i love your book review posts and have done well by them. i keep a running written list for myself of your suggestions.

  9. What a wonderful affliction/addiction to have! You are never alone when you have a good book to read! Love your book reviews! Keep up the good work!

  10. I love books! Lately I’ve been noticing these great bookshelves on my shows that just line up the whole room, like almost every show has them. Maybe you can create something like that to showcase your wonderful books!

  11. Books have always had a healthy chunk of my monthly budget. I love to read, and have books around me. You just need more bookshelves!

  12. lol @ ‘the books in the middle belong to my husband’ I think there’s 4 in that pile?
you should have seen the agony on my husband’s face when I was pressing him to get rid of books he’s already read (paperbacks) b4 we moved. I don’t want to move a bunch of books you’ve already read! it killed him to pare down the books.
he likes to read books in a series. he had all 15 books from one series. he had read them more than once. he finally decided that if he can get a book he’s read from kindle or the library he got rid of the paperback. ;p
