And Some Sewing Happened

Lot's of sewing went on this week. Nothing actually finished, but I do have a lot of irons in the fire right now. The photo above is my Strawberry Garden project. I finished up three blocks with flying geese and six little pinwheel blocks. I love these fabrics and colors.

These are blocks for the Fat Quarter Shop 2012 Designer Mystery project. No, that is not a typo. These blocks are 13 years old. As my sister Kate says, fabric doesn't go bad, so these blocks are as fresh and fun as they were over a decade ago. My friend Lisa D. also finished these blocks recently and set them on the diagonal in a great looking quilt. At this point, I am not absolutely sure what I will do for a setting, but I will come up with something. These blocks are too great to languish any longer!

This is the block I finished most recently, Block 10. It came together so beautifully. I think the secret to getting good points and flat blocks is to starch your fabric and press your seams open. Before I started doing those two things, my blocks were never this accurate.

I am so excited. I have decided upon a new project, which will be a gift, that I am launching into immediately. I need it done, quilted and bound by the end of May….Stay tuned.

  1. Great progress on those large quilts— they are both beautiful and well worth the effort! I noticed you had four empty places in your quilt journal page— best to get those filled in! Can’t wait to see the new project. Xox

  2. Lovely. Great blocks and colors. Although I think it is definitely the pineapple drinks quilt (not strawberry), looks like a pineapple with a straw.
I would be very messed up with background fabric if I worked on more than one quilt at a time. I can see why you have to keep careful track. The journal was lovely.
I am in Indiana. We are very distressed over Joann’s closure. It is very sad.

  3. I’m just being nosy, but how much approximate time do you spend sewing during a week? I’ve realized I don’t get much done because I’m not budgeting my time like I should.

  4. Love the red/pink houndstooth in block 10!!
I haven’t looked through my UFO’s in years but I’m sure I have many from the last century.

  5. You’re on a roll! Making time to sew each day has worked for you! Ask your long arm quilter to reserve a spot for you on her list. Then work toward that deadline for the May quilt!

  6. MAY?! you’re crazy! I’m binding a quilt that is for a bday next weekend. that’s enough stress for me. ;p
will Lisa D. let you post a picture of her blocks? I’d love to see them in a diagonal setting.

  7. All your blocks are beautiful, as usual. Those strawberry blocks will look even more like a strawberry once they are finished (as the bottoms will be thinner and go more to a point).

  8. Nicole, I tried to share your post about lip oils with a few friends & they could not see your blog. Any reason?. I have shared your favorite things before & your posts came up.
Thanks!! Keep making beautiful quilts!!! TY.

  9. Love all of your blocks! I’m really interested to see what type of layout you do for the mystery blocks.
