It is total pandemonium at my house these days. Tuesday we had loads of shingles delivered. A crane apparatus was used to hoist them to the top of the roof. Yesterday, the house is swarming with men shouting in Spanish and pounding loudly with hammers. Of course dry rot was discovered up there and now another $6000 worth of fascia boards (whatever they are) need to be replaced.

This is the view from the front porch. These guys work hard, I tell you. They arrive around 7:30 in the morning and stay until it gets almost dark. Archie has been pretty good about not barking, but every now and then a seismic crash up above shakes the whole house and sets him off.
My husband met with a neurosurgeon yesterday and has a date set for surgery Monday October 21. They would typically do it sooner, but the doctor is out all next week. Luckily the surgery will not be as drastic as we first feared. There are three or four discs involved which are creating all the pain and other havoc. The surgery will not be on the discs themselves, but rather on the bones the discs are pressing up against. The plan is to shave down those bones so the nerve endings aren't being rubbed. It won't be microsurgery unfortunately, which means a larger incision and a longer recovery.
It is a relief to have a plan and a potential end to all the pain my husband has been suffering.

This is a photo of my dining room buffet. When my sisters and I went through my mom's decorations this past spring, I chose this Halloween Santa for myself.

He really is quite magnificent. The piece is carved of wood, but isn't signed for some reason, so I don't know who the artist was. It is such fun. I always enjoyed it when my mom put it out for Halloween, and it makes me happy to have in my home now.
I hope your week is going well. I am just taking it one day at a time at this point!

A lot of craziness in your life right now. Praying for strength, peace, and healing. God is good.
I’m so glad your husband has answers and a plan. Prayers be with you both as you navigate this upcoming procedure. I hope he can ride out the delay with a little less pain.
We had our second roof put on last summer. And there was also a lot of boards replaced from rot. Ours isn’t as large as yours!! Thank heavens little Archie is being a good boy for the most part!!
Oh dear so much going on! It’s not fun while you’re in the thick of it. You’ll be very happy when it’s complete though. Amazing how the money just adds up!
Sending prayers for a successful surgery and recovery for your husband. The poor guy! But to be pain free and have his mobility back, will make it all worthwhile. Wishing you a large support system to help with meals, the usual house stuff and little Archie! He will be a bit confused at first! But they are wonderful and adapt quickly!🙏❤️
Yup, we have 2 layers on our roof already; when they take those off what rot will they find? We are putting it off until next spring. Your Santa is just perfect! I’d love one for every season!
I am so glad to hear there is a plan for your husband’s surgery, and, hopefully, relief from the pain he is enduring. Oh, the roof replacement – been there, done that! It is no fun! I have 3 dogs, and I just had to take them away for the day, as they were going berserk!! I just love your Halloween Santa – what a unique sculpture!
What a relief to have a plan moving ahead for your hubby and he gets fixed up! And I hope that you’re doing ok with all the extra pressures that get put on your plate when medical issues like this come up. Take care!
So glad you have an action plan in place. Prayers continue… ❤️❤️
My husband had a similar back problem and was also in so much pain. He had surgery for a bone spur and the relief was instant. I hope your hubby responds well too.
We got new siding last summer and I agree those guys work hard. We had an Amish contractor, but the crew spoke Spanish. The noise and chaos almost sent my wft (wire fox terrier) into a nervous breakdown.
Hang in there, life will get better.
I am glad there is a plan in place and your husband will get relief from his pain. I am sure October 21st can’t come soon enough for him. With all the chaos outside, its nice to be able to enjoy your Halloween decorations inside, which look lovely.
So happy your husband has a diagnosis & a plan in place. When it rains it pours & you’ve definitely got more than your share right now. One day at a time is all you can do. Sending the good thoughts your way for strength & peace.
my heart is very heavy for you right now. the worry alone is mind boggling. I hope family can pitch in and help you. lots of prayers for you.
It’s a shame your husband must wait for surgery, but how relieved you must be that there is a remedy. My daughter is having disc surgery next week, and I just ran into an old friend who had discs removed, and metal plates put in their place. She said it was easier than expected, and that she feels great. Hope your husband has a successful recovery,as well.
Thank goodness there is an answer for your husband’s pain! I always wonder how our pioneer ancestors lived through all their pains. Plus, there are billions of people around the globe with these same kinds of conditions who don’t have access to our wondrous levels of medical knowledge. They never get treated. Maybe this is partly why people of third world countries die younger and people of previous generations died younger. One can imagine living in constant horrible pain could lead to an earlier death!
So, yes to a week longer of pain rather than years of this! You will celebrate the quiet in the weeks to come, too! Best to you!
I would imagine the noise and chaos is hard to take, with all that is happening in your household recently. It sounds like you have a good crew that is working on your home trying to get the job done. I’m sure it’s a relief to have a plan in place for your husband. Thank goodness there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Take care! 🌻
Full steam ahead…while the surgery is scary, it is needed. Wishing him dramatic relief in the process. The roofers always seem to be characters. Sending endless amounts of love and prayerful support!
We just had our roof replaced, and it was amazing how fast they worked. I sure hope your husband can have his pain relieved. Back pain is miserable.
I am sorry to hear that your husband needs surgery, but glad that it isn’t as extensive as you thought it may be. I hope all goes well with his medical team next week and he’s able to live without pain very soon. Doesn’t it seem that all things happen at once? Hope the house repairs are wrapping up so that you can get back to the quiet in your home.
So sorry your hubby is in so much pain but hoping the surgery helps him. You’ve got so much on your plate make sure you make time for yourself. Dealing with contractors is stressful so hoping it goes easy. Keeping you in my prayers and sending happy thoughts 😉
