No sewing.  I am not watching paint dry for lack of anything to do, I am watching the tree in my backyard turn red.  Almost the same thing.

My Bernina may be ready by Nov. 4.  Whether I can drive two hours on that day to pick it up remains to be seen, so I may not get it until a later date.  In the mean time,  I am reading my books and making simple flying geese units for Jo Morton's Rhubarb Crisp table topper.

Just wanted to check in to say I am alive.  This Saturday is my family's annual Halloween Party, so with luck, I will have some fun photos to share with you next week!

Hope you are all doing really well!

  1. You just reminded me that at the home I just sold, I had two very tall liquid amber trees at the curb that just turned scarlet and gold in the Fall, and I am missing them. Luckily I can imagine them from memory. The baby oaks at the new house turned brown and dropped most leaves in a week. Oh well. Plan to plant some nandinas, the kind that turn bright red in the winter cold. And there’s the pleasure of the new house and family close by. That will do it. Hope your machine is as good as new on its return.

  2. Just wondering…Sara had a sewing machine at one time, didn’t she? Maybe you could borrow her’s to get by until the Bernina can be picked up. Reading is good, too, if you can’t sew! Your family Halloween party pictures are always great! Have lots of fun together!

  3. Mother nature is giving us a good show here in the NW as well. We sometimes just get so much rain and wind that the trees don’t much chance to show off. Can’t wait to see your Hallow’een photos, you have the best party!

  4. I brought my machine in for service a few eeks ago and had to sew two weeks on my mum’s sewing machine and I was so glad when I had my machine back. Although she’s a few years older then my mum’s she sews much better (especially now after her spa treatment). But it’s good if you have time to read then maybe you will have some good book recommendations soon for us it’s so hard to find a good book lately.
    Have fun at the party!

  5. It’s good you have other things to enjoy with our unexpected free time and hope you’re enjoying the tranquility.
Love the autumn picture! We had a maple in our yard in central TX but it changed color at Christmas – too late! Here in VA, Autumn is a colorful delight. Chilly days are her, too!
    HHave fun at the party!
    Hugs!

  6. May I suggest Jan Karon’s books. I believe it would be best to begin with the first book. I also like A. Ross’s Miss Julia books and think it would be best to read in order. I read for pure entertainment now, no more work related books or articles.

  7. It’s a beautiful tree. Hope you get your sewing machine back soon so you can get back to sewing. But sometimes a forced vacation is just the thing you need, just to read and do whatever you feel like doing. I hope it is enjoyable for you, and the party is fun!
