So, today I will post photos of the nine quilt layouts I experimented with for Sara's Log Cabin quilt. I would love it if you all would vote on your best guess as to which layout Sara should choose for her quilt. On Friday, I will post the name of the person who first chimed in correctly with the layout that Sara likes best. I will have a little giveaway prize to send to that person.
The layout # and name will be below the photo. Here we go:

Layout #1 Squares

Layout #2 Squares with Frame

Layout #3 Chevrons

Layout #4 Straight Furrows

Layout #5 Barn Raising

Layout #6 Four Squares

Layout #7 Snail's Trail

Layout #8 Radiating Star

Layout #9 Framed Star

So many to choose from….but I think that Sara will go with the #5 barn raising layout. I think it’s tradition but with a modern edge to it.
I love #2. I think it is really beautiful with the dark frame. Really great quilt Nicole.
#7 and they are all wonderful!
Well, if she were me she would pick #8 radiating star.
Love them all. But #5 is my bet
I think she might go for the traditional #1. There’s a good reason why the tried and true patterns get used over and over again!
Nicole, I missed your post yesterday asking for suggestions for other layouts as I was traveling. I didn’t realize you were considering a contemporary slant for the quilt. What about the barn raising layout (#5)with the center of the quilt moved toward the upper left corner? It presents a very strong graphic image, slightly asymmetrical but still balanced.
I like number 2,
Number 6…Four Squares is my favorite!
I think # 5 will be her choice….er, maybe it’s also the one I’d choose. Wonderful to have these choices– all so gorgeous.
I’D choose #5 Barn Raising. It flows well.
I like number1.
I love #8.
ok i am voting she loves #3. i hope I am right! Have a great day. This was fun for us and a lot of work for you Nicole. Thanks!
Mary
Since Sara is younger I say #7 but #four is still my favorite.
I like #7, Snail Trail — because it’s original!
I like #7, too. What fun to have choices, choices, and more choices!
Hugs!
I like several but #9 is a new one to me – I think it is modern looking so she might choose that one. The blocks are beautiful!
I love #5 Barn Raising. Sara is lucky to have such a talented Mom.
#6 four squares. You go! That was a lot of work rearranging the blocks.
I vote for number 2. They are all great, though.
I vote for Number 1, Squares but then they are all beautiful!
You are a wonderful Mom (and Grandmother too!) and not only will your daughter love your quilt but kudos to you for rearranging your blocks 9 times so all your readers could live vicariously with the process!
I predict Straight Furrows #4
#5 Barnraising, is always my favorite. Whatever the choice the quilt is going to be beautiful. ;-> Toni Anne
I’m going to go with layout #2; followed closely by #3! It will be fun to see what Sara chooses! You’ve done a great job & the quilt will be beautiful!
I’m going with #5, Barn Rising. Can’t wait to see which one she chooses!
Number 2 with the frame really set off the blocks. It will be lovely no matter which setting you choose.
I’m a tradionalist…I like #5 Barn raising. You did a beautiful job.
#6 is my fave but I think she may pick #2.
This wasn’t easy but I did make up my mind, finally. (Dad helped!) I’m so excited to see my new quilt on my bed when it’s all finished, just in time for the warmer months. Thank you, mom!!!
My vote is for #2, Squares with a frame. I think it would look great on a bed. I love all of your quilts. Patty
I’m guessing she will pick #6 Four Squares.
Layout #2 is my favorite.
Number 8, radiating Star. But to tell you the truth, I like all of them. Can’t go wrong with a Log Cabin block:)
Will be a beautiful quilt.
I vote for #5.
Layout #6–I’m a traditionalist but this pattern looks very interesting to me.
love them all, but I think I like #2 the best.
I love layout #5
ack!!! can’t decide…too many choices! make them all! no help? glad sara has to decide and not me. ;p
I love #8 the most and then #2. But whichever Sara pick it’ll look great.
I’m thinking she’ll pick #2 but #4 is also a good one 🙂
#5 – Barnraising!
I’m thinking she may lean to the Chevron layout – #3. Any way she goes, it will be a beautiful quilt to snuggle with and think of you at the same time.
Great choices! I like layout #5, Barn Raising but it was difficult to pick just one, good luck finishing!
Snails Trail.
Layout #5 Barnraising is my preferred choice. Any one of them would make a stunning quilt however.
I like layout 5 its restful and pleasing to look at.
#4- furrows for my first choice, #7- snail trail for a really close second- so inspiring- just started a red, white and blue log cabin quilt because of your post
Barn Raising #5
I like #6 the best. All of them look really pretty, but this one really stands out to me.
Ok. . . since there is no way that I can be the first (after all there are already 50 comments!) I am going to vote for the two that I like. . . .
#2
#6
You came up with a couple of layouts that I would not have thought about. . . so thank you very much for that!
Have a stress free day!
My guess is lay-out #2! The setting w/ frame is outstanding!!
Layout #6 – Four squares, but they are all very striking. Great job!
I think I’d go with no.2 xx
I’m going with #5, I have seen similar ones with an offset pattern and they were very effective.
Whichever one is chosen, I’m sure it will be beautiful. Way to gol
Marge
I will say number 2 is my favorite, but maybe not Sara’s.
I think #8 the radiating star will be her choice. It is very dramatic! I really like them all. So hard to choose. K- lkw2x6-apq@yahoo.com
I am sure that they’ve all been picked by now and it will look fantastic no matter which she chooses!
Layout 2 is what I would choose. Got my 26 year old daughter to have a look she chose 2 as well. All are beautiful. Love the fabric choice!
Straight furrows.
Hi, I like #6 the best. The end result will be great anyway!
They are all wonderful, but #8, Radiating Star, especially caught my eye!
Choosing #6 by far the best complete design, Always love Barn Raising but too common a favorite among quilters. Also #9 is interesting. 8 is too busy. 7 needs more blocks to be effective. But keep up your fabulous work. You always inspire me.
Wow, Nicole. Good job. I think my favorite is #2. Will be fun to read what Sara chooses.
Barnraising…a favorite of mine. Made a scrappy one myself!
Beautiful quilt. Always a show stopper.
I think Layout #8 Radiating Star it’s unusual enough to choose it. Cheers.
#6
Love it!
This is so tricky, but quickly (before I change my mind) I vote for number 6, closely followed by 2 and then 8.
I think it’s going to be #5. I’m making a log cabin myself right now, and that’s the layout I’m going with.
#2 is my first choice, #5 is my second. Good job!
Hi Nicole, I like layout 8, the radiating stars, but whichever Sara has chosen will be great. You have shown great patience trying all those different layouts.
Frame 2 is my favorite.
#5 Barnraising would be my choice but would it be Sara’s choice….what ever she picks, your blocks will be beautiful in the quilt for her.
Jane
I love #4 but who knew there could be so many options, thanks for sharing.
Oh my gosh…they all are so nice and guess I won’t be the first of any one of them but love number #8….very different and not sure why it is catching my eye. Will be very interested to see who of us is on the mark. Thanks Nicole ;)))
Love them all – going with number 7!
#5, then #2 but they are all awesome, especially in the colors you chose. Lucky Sara!!
I like No. 5 Barn Raising.
I like the radiating star #8….
so different…
they are all so beautiful
I love #3 – it looks like it’s going somewhere!
I like layout #6. Don’t know what Sara will choose but all of them are lovely!
I vote for #5 barn raising. It looks great with a 2 (plus red centers) colour quilt or a multi coloured
Half with a plain opposite.
#5 Barn Raising is my favorite. Making this decision is why I have a love/hate relationship with making log cabin quilts!!
