Pretty Darn Cute

I have been working away on my orange and black checkerboard blocks for "Lucy", and have worked myself up into a fine Halloween frame of mind.  I took a break from checkerboard blocks this weekend and stitched up this cute little Halloween table topper in one day.   I have been thinking of making this little quilt for the past three autumns, and decided now was the time to do it.

The pattern was in the 2011 autumn issue of Fons and Porter's Easy Quilts magazine.  And how about this?  You can still get the magazine for only $3.49.  Go to the Fons and Porter website and the pattern can be yours.  It was a cinch to make.  I used one of the Tri Recs rulers to make things easier, the Spike one, if you are familiar with those tools.  I had some of the fabrics featured in the pattern, but any Halloween themed fabrics will do.  You also have to make a "trimming tool" and you can easily do that with a piece of cardboard.  There are eight candy corn blocks, five borders, and a final trimming of prairie points.

Can you believe I have never done prairie points?  They are easy, fun, and a totally cute finish to a quilt.  If you need a lesson in how to do them, Fons and Porter has a helpful video to show you how.  Here is the link to that.

I think it turned out pretty darn cute.

Just so you know I haven't been slacking on Lucy, I have made 42 checkerboard blocks thus far.
