Moda BlockHeads Fabric and Mother’s Day

I've got my fabric all lined up for the BlockHeads 6 project, which will start later this month. It is Pumpkin Spice Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings. It combines the reproduction style I love, as well as the brighter colors I've been craving lately.

There are loads of background prints, which I think add interest. The other colors are gold, rust, orange, red, tan, brown, sage green, black, and purple. I can't guarantee I will use the purple, but you never know. I decorate a lot with gold, red, and green, so these colors will fit in perfectly with my decor. It has an autumnal feel, with a bit of zip and brightness.

Now to get it all starched!

Son in law Ryan had us all over for homemade pizza on Mother's Day, which was amazing. He made eight different pizzas for us all to taste. I bought a big Caesar salad, and Eva made brownies for dessert. It was such a lovely evening.

I mentioned that Eva had asked if she could use my sewing machine to make a frog. Well, it turns out she made three of them. Each of her "bonus mom"s got one. Her stepmom Stephanie, Stephanie's mom Nana Sue, and me! Is that not the cutest frog and the sweetest note? Each one of us got a thoughtful personal note of appreciation and a little bean bag froggie.

I just showed her how to use the Bernina and how to go slowly around curves and she was pretty much on her own for the rest of it. She stuffed them with split peas which I thought was appropriate.

Mother's Day was just about perfect and I hope yours was too!

  1. What a testament these examples are to YOU as a person, Nicole! That Eva’s dad still has such a good relationship with you and that Eva even thought of this homemade gift with heartfelt card? Well, it speaks so well of how you love and how you move through the world. Happy (belated) Mother’s Day to you!

  2. Is this frog from the pattern that was so popular in the 70’s? How terrific that you are passing on the love of sewing.

  3. I’d frame that note & put it on a table with the frog! What a thoughtful gift for all of the ‘bonus moms’ in Eva’s life! And, eight (!) homemade pizzas? It sounds like a great Mother’s Day celebration!

  4. I’m glad to see that life for you is brighter now. And how nice to know how much Eva appreciates you. Is Ahren still visiting?
I had wonderful phone conversations with both of my kids and dinner out with our best friends. A lovely Mother’s Day for me too.

  5. 1) I was JUST looking at that gorgeous fabric on Fat Quarter Shop website! I just love it. I also LOVE Stacy Hsu’s new Halloween fabric, Home Sweet Haunt. I’m thinking of buying….
    2) I’ve been craving pizza. So glad you got to have a lovely dinner without fighting the crowds.
    3) Eva is so lucky to have all of you. You are all so lucky to have Eva.
Happy sewing! I actually sewed a little yesterday. yay me!

  6. That note is the sweetest thing ever!! You’ve certainly taught her so much and you so blessed by her! I wish just one of my five granddaughters would take an interest in any type of sewing, and I’ve tried. I so enjoy your blog!!

  7. Wow, I hope my granddaughters see me the way Eva sees you! What a heartfelt note, did you cry? I teared up reading it! She is blessed to have you in her life and I’m so happy that you have such a good relationship with her dad too. You have handled the situation with such love and grace. I had a good Mother’s Day as well, spent time with my mother, then spent time with each child who lives here and all of my granddaughters. This weekend I’ll be in Florida and will spend the weekend with my daughter and son-in-law there. My heart is full! ❤️

  8. What a precious note…….tuck it away with your treasures. What a creative young lady Eva is….and so thoughtful.. Thanks for sharing your very fine Mother’s Day. I was blessed to have both sons here for the weekend…….and they did so many wonderful chores for us. They are fun together and it does not happen very often. They even went to church with us early Sunday……they deserve gold stars!!!!!
Those fabrics look great! It is going to be fun to see your Blockheads develop.
