Moda BlockHeads 3 Version One

I am still working on taking apart my setting for Moda BlockHeads 3. These are all the 8-inch blocks. I decided to make several quilts out of the 80-some odd blocks I made for that quilt-along. I really cannot believe I made over 80 blocks in four different sizes and thought I could put them all into one quilt. No. That did not work.

I've been obsessed with this project and it has taken over the sewing room for now. I want to get at least one BlockHeads quilt top done before I start on BlockHeads 6 next week!

Taking all those blocks apart is a chore, but I think will be worth it in the end. I loved the fabrics I used, which were two red, blue and cream collections by 3 Sisters. Holly Woods and Snowberry. Who wouldn't want three different quilts out of that pretty fabric?  lol

My setting  for these 8 inch blocks is 5 x 6 blocks: 30 blocks. I had enough of the background I was using to make a lattice to go between the blocks, which I think sets them off nicely. It is a simple setting, but at this point it's fine.

Have you ever had the patience to take apart a quilt top that wasn't working for you and turn it into something else? I've definitely never done this before!

I am determined to make another quilt or two from the 12-inch blocks and the 6-inch blocks. The 4-inch blocks may well end up as a table topper!

Hope you all had a lovely long weekend, as I did! We had a garage sale, which just about did me in. Never again is what I say about doing any more garage sales.

  1. I SO agree about “never again” with the garage sale! I did one last summer with my neighbor and it was wayyyy too much! Afterwards I said “never again!” I was exhausted from all the setup/takedown/sale and didn’t make that much. At my age, I decided in the future, I’m calling a free service we have provided by Veterans who run a thrift store. You call, put your stuff on the porch and they pick it up for free! Easy on the back and body 🤣
    Have a great day!

  2. Oh, ladies! Never again?? I’ve been whining because we used to have 2-day garage sales every May. Our friend’s mom had the best location in town, but the family sold her house when she passed away. We live too far out of town to draw the crowds, so no more garage sales. I’ve never taken blocks apart to rearrange, so I can only imagine how tedious that job would be–but worth the effort once it’s finished, right?

  3. As much effort as this is, I’m sure you will be so much happier when you are done and will actually use the quilts. Keep at it!
When my mom passed I couldn’t get my head around a garage sale. Fortunately there are a lot of various types of donation centers in our town, and my sister had a convenient trailer to move things so that’s what we did.

  4. ugh. garage sales are rough. people can be soooo demanding and unreasonable. I’m practically giving stuff away at these prices and they want to dicker over the price. ugh.
I donate now but THAT is also a pain. things sit in the back of my car for days b4 I get them dropped off. such a pain. I really sound like a grumpy old woman, don’t I?!
I looked at the setting Nancy linked to and I like that. however, she did say it’s a lot of work.

  5. I once removed all the quilting I had done because I noticed the tension on the back side was awful. It is still one I love after redoing it. It was so much softer when I had worked on it that much. I’m still on the fence if I want to do the blockheads 6. I do have fabrics I could use but summer is my time to ignore quilting.Garage sales are popular with families with children growing out of their clothes. Around me most garage sales are children’s clothes, and yes a lot of work.
