Glorious Day

Hello friends!  It was 81 degrees in Carmel Valley today, and my DH and I decided it was a perfect afternoon to go to our favorite garden nursery and buy some new plants to freshen up the backyard.  Our garden was hit hard by a bad frost we had this winter, and I have many bare spots to fill and terra cotta pots to replant.  We got plenty of inspiration at the garden center, and DH’s credit card is still smokin’.

Here’s my garden boy with the two carts I managed to fill with all kinds of pretty annuals.  Tomorrow he will plant everything for me.  I know, I know, I am so lucky.  My style of gardening has always been more theoretical than practical.  Poring over garden magazines and picking out the pretty flowers is what I do best.  Physical labor?  Sweating in the sun?  Oh no, not this girl.

  1. Oooooh – so pretty! Lucky girl you are! Tomorrow is going to be so fun as they are planted in the ground! You’re my kind of girl, Nicole…. I’m not good at the actual “work” – nope, I’m all about watching someone else planting and pruning! LOL

  2. You have an extremely handsome garden boy – I hope you pay him well. I saw your pics on Flickr before I saw your post – What a perfect way to spend a Friday.

  3. I happened to be in Carmel as well today! Just for a little while, but enough to know it was lovely! The nursery looks amazing. Wish I could have an abundance of those plants in my yard, but out here they’d fry! Love our own local nursery, Alden Lane.

  4. We share the same gardening style. I just love gardening–in theory. But I hate getting dirty and sweaty. I’m trying really hard this year, though, to create a small garden spot in the back yard. Those vibrantly colored hydrangeas are glorious. I love hydrangeas.

  5. Such pretty flowers. You certainly have a good haul there. I love to head off the the garden centre in the early spring and pick out all the new annuals. We have had nothing but rain and more rain — but today the sun is shining. The hostas are just starting to come up now. I don’t mind a little bit of digging in the spring, but after that I just like to enjoy as others weed!

  6. Oh My Gosh!!!! These flowers are beautiful. Today we are preparing our gardens for flower planting and after seeing your photo’s I must run not walk to the nursery TODAY. Thanks for sharing your lovely photo’s.
