I just love it when we get a great discussion going on this blog! Thank you all for your very thoughtful comments on the subject of copying someone else's designs. Most of us don't mind a bit if our work is duplicated by someone else, and in fact find it flattering. Quilters tend to be a pretty generous group, so that isn't a big surprise. According to Merriam Webster: Inspiration is a force that makes someone want to do something or that gives someone an idea about what to do or create. I doubt there is an artist anywhere who has not been inspired by someone else.
When I did my pattern post a few days back, I left out two new patterns I ordered recently. The Strawberry Social pattern by Margot Languedoc of The Pattern Basket is so darn cute. I have seen this one made up on several blogs and it is adorable. There might be a special little girl in my life who gets this quilt some day!
The booklet on the left is called Moda Candy, put out by Moda of course. There are 18 projects in it, all featuring those little 2 1/2 inch precut squares. The patterns are terrific and who doesn't have a drawer full of scraps they could cut into 2 1/2 inch squares? For myself, I kind of doubt I will be buying any mini charm packs. It is a crime how much fabric scraps I have on hand, so it would be pretty cinchy for me to just cut a million of them into squares myself to make one of these projects.

I’ve seen that Strawberry Social pattern, too, and fell for it. But have you seen one of Fig Tree’s new patterns — Cherry Pie? It’s cute, too. Oh, decisions, decisions.
What cute and yummy patterns you’ve found to tempt us all! I bet I know what little Miss might someday find a strawberry quilt on her big girl bed!
I’m in the process of slowly cutting my scraps into 2 1/2″ squares and it’s nice to feel these fabrics will be put to good use rather than piling up in scrap boxes. Most need to be pressed before cutting after years in said scrap boxes, but jazzy music even makes that a pleasure.

Enabler! I’ve been wanting that Strawberry Social patten for awhile but have hesitated because I have so many patterns already. I may need to copy you though 🙂 Maybe a strawberry sew along?
Hi Nicole… quick question. Where did you get that Moda Candy book? Were you able to find that like you would a pattern? I haven’t seen that and I have 2 1/2 inch squares up the ying-yang (as my gramma would say). Thanks so much!

It feels great to ‘rescue’ stash and cutting it into small squares is a win for sure! I don’t have a lot of stash yet but what I do have is treasured and I look forward to using it in another ‘labor of love’!

I love your dictionary sighting. Also, the art of quilting is historically a community craft. Sewing bees, large frames where women gathered and assisted in the completion of a quilt… talked; shared… it’s all part of the beauty of quilting.
We ought to do a Sew Along with the Strawberry Social quilt. I’d be “all in”!
I love the strawberry social pattern too! I would love to make it, mostly because I adore red and white, but it would be another quilt with no specific purpose – just because! I have a few of those now!
