I’m pretty happy with how this quilt top turned out. I got the borders on yesterday and now it’s ready to be quilted. It is a very good feeling to finish up so many projects lately. While I was working on them, I know I enjoyed myself, and as always, had fun picking out the fabrics and the patterns. It seems only right that they be completed.
I was also so pleased to see that so many of you bought the pattern from Emily Herrick of Crazy Old Ladies. She told me she has been away from the quilting world for a while due to “life” getting in the way, but she still sells her designs on her Etsy shop. I like this Maison Bleue pattern so much that I think I may make it again. The block is one of those that look a lot more complicated than they actually are.

Yesterday, my friend Ina asked me if I had started the A Quilting Life BOM yet. She attached a photo of her block, which was adorable. That lit a fire under me, and I went through my leftover fabrics from the Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery 2023 sew-along, and I had so much fabric left over that I think it will make a good start on this new sew-along that Sherri McConnell is hosting. The fabric line I am using is Sunnyside by Camille Roskelley. I thought I might need a bit more to complete the blocks, so I got on my computer and started searching. It’s been three years since it came out, so it was not easy to find. I finally located some of it, but of course, I could only order half-yard cuts, so now I have more than enough. Argh. It must not pay for online quilt shops to offer quarter-yard cuts, because hardly anyone does.

The only fabric I couldn’t find in the line was the green print in the photo above. I just love it and am dying to get my hands on a piece of it. Do any of you readers have any yardage I could buy from you? I don’t need much, whatever you are willing to part with. A quarter yard would be plenty.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend. I can barely believe it is Friday already! It’s been a productive week, and from the look of the dust bunnies and laundry piling up, I’ve spent most of it up in my sewing room! I have no plans to change that arrangment for the time being.

I bought a PDF of the Maison Bleue too, I have a stacker that needs to be used. Sorry I don’t have any of the Sunnyside fabric. Quilt in a Day sells 1/4 yards, they have two online shops, one at Etsy and one stand alone. Although they don’t have Sunnyside either, I often find what I am looking for there, and since they are in San Marcos CA, I can get it quickly. https://www.etsy.com/shop/QuiltinaDayStore?section_id=37623491
In the past i have had good luck on Etsy finding out of date fabrics, but that one print is eluding me.
I checked my stash, but none, sorry. This shop looks like they may have some if they are updated. https://www.fabricyardageh.com/?s=sunnyside&post_type=product
I jumped right on that link and was so happy to see they had the exact fabric I was looking for. Only they want $25 to ship it!!!!
I would call them. They can’t be in business if they won’t be fair with shipping. I’ve had places make adjustments once actual shipping prices are know. That is crazy!!
P.S…..I love the border you chose for your quilt.
The border is a perfect big finish!
I was happy to have that piece of border fabric saved.
That border really completes the top! I also bought the pattern. Thanks for sharing the details!
It seems like a really good pattern. I may make it again from a layer cake I have been saving.
That border makes the quilt perfect!!
I haven’t made a quilt with a border print like that in a long time, but I agree it is just right!
Thank you for contacting Emily – I was very happy to be able to buy the PDF.
Looking forward to using a hoarded layer cake to make this quilt.
Oh good. I was happy to send some business her way.
Beautiful quilt! I started Sherri’s BIM too using brights I have at home from her collections. A winner-using what I have!
Now that I have made one block I am keen to keep going. Wish I didn’t have to wait until February!
Good morning, Nicole from chilly Saskatchewan! You should google our temperature here just for fun!! I love how that border fabric ties your quilt together…great choice. Maison bleu is so familiar to me and it got me wondering if I would have that pattern in a book somewhere?? I did a quick google search but nothing came up. Maybe I have a similar pattern somewhere in my quilt room? And I look forward to your Monday finish!!!!!
My sister in Madison, WI shared that it is -17 where she is! She compared it to living on Mars.
Did you try ETSY? I did a quick look and found several 1/8 and 1/4 bundles but didn’t (sorry) have time to go through all of it to see if they had the color you wanted. Also a lot of the sellers on ETSY do 1/4 yard cuts if you don’t mind the shipping costs. Good Luck!
I did try Etsy first, and usually have good luck finding older fabric on there, but not that particular print. I did see the bundles, but didn’t want to buy a whole bundle just for a fat quarter of that one fabric. I had already ordered some half yard cuts of some of the other prints, so the money I was spending on quilt I meant to make with leftovers was getting crazy.
Oooohhhhh! That narrow red border is such a nice ‘frame’ for your Maison Bleue! Do you have enough to use for the binding, as well? The floral border is a nice compliment for the blocks themselves. I hope you’re able to find that pretty green fabric!
I used a “grunge” red fabric for that narrow red border and ordered plenty to have for the binding too. Fine minds think alike!
I found your fabric at Thimbles and Things in Orillia, Ontario. They ship to the US!
I’ve contacted them to see if they will sell less than a meter of the fabric. Their website is kind of tricky to figure out. They say they ship to the US, but the website freezes up when I can’t put in a province.
As always, you and I have the same tastes in fabrics! I haven’t finished my Designer Mystery 2023 but I have almost everything done. I always buy Oops! fabrics. I found a fat eighth of that in my stash. Then I looked down from my chair and I found over a yard of that fabric. I may be able to part with 3/4 of a yard. Let me know how much you need.
Well, that is amazing! A quarter yard would be plenty for my needs. Let me know how much you would like for it, including shipping! Thanks Kathy. You can email me at nicoleshyne1@gmail.com
I just sent you an email.
Sorry, I don’t have the cute fabric you’re looking for. $25 for shipping?? What are they thinking? There used to be an online site called Missing Fabrics but that closed a couple of years ago. Wonder if a new site has replaced it?
The border fabric on your newly finished quilt couldn’t be more perfect! Applause, applause!!!
We may lose power when Storm Fern comes to our area Saturday night so I may disappear for a while. When Hurricane Isobel came thru about 20 years ago, we were without power for 9 days – but it wasn’t January! As Grandma Hall used to say, “Do pray!”
Hugs!
I remember Missing Fabrics. That was such a fun site. There was something else called quiltshops.com where you could search for a certain fabric and all the shops that had it (and were registered with the site) would pop up. I used to use that all the time. Luckily Kathy C. had a yard of the fabric and has said she will sell me a quarter yard or so. Thank goodness for generous quilters. I am so lucky to have a platform where I can put out requests like that and have someone respond!
stay safe and I hope you have a wood burning stove to stay warm!
Love your quilt and border fabric is perfect! Hope you find the fabric you’re looking for at a reasonable price!
Boy was I wrong. I thought that quilt was stunning even without the borders! But now with the borders on, the quilt is way more than stunning! It is a real standout! The colors are wonderful and the design is full of energy! The border is a bit unusual but in a good way. I would say the border is perfect. Overall a spectacular quilt! Congratulations on such a good find.
Thanks so much for the kind words Karen!
Wow, Maison Bleue is really beautiful! That large floral print for the border just pulls it all together perfectly. Way to go!
Thanks Sally!
Nicole,
I was just catching up reading several days of your posts and as I was reading the comments on the first post I thought “ooh I want the recipe for the chocolate cake,” and there it was! (Thank you Carole)!
I also clicked on the link for the Maison Bleue and it had already sold out again! Oh, well. All your quilts are looking gorgeous and inspiring me. I am heading to the sewing room right now! Have a wonderful weekend.
It is confusing it is sold out because it was PDF. I would contact the Etsy shop owner.
It may be that the seller can only list so many at a time due to some kind of Etsy rule. If you message her, she will list more.
I can’t wait to make that cake either!
that border is gorgeous! works perfectly to finish the quilt. have a wonderful weekend! everything is awful so we might as well sew. ;p
At least you are feeling better. Dennis has had some kind of weird virus all week. He has aches and pains, is tired, and every afternoon he gets the chills/shakes. Finally, today he seems over it. Of course, he wouldn’t go to urgent care.
I am trying to starch today and even though it is clear, it’s taking forever for that fabric to dry!
I love that quilt top with the borders added! Your posts about finishing all your projects has inspired me to tackle some of my sidelined projects cluttering my sewing room. This weekend should be good for sewing as we are preparing to be snowed in.
The weather in the US has been crazy cold. My sister in Madison said it was -17! I cannot even imagine.
Thanks for the kind words about the quilt top. It feels like a free quilt!
I agree gorgeous/stand out quilt! The border is fabulous!
I too bought the pattern, pdf.
Thanks VIckie!
Another beautiful finish, the blocks are so interesting and I love the border fabric. Congrats!
