The forest of trees is growing! I have finished the green trees now, and this will make Barbara happy, who said she couldn’t wrap her head around red trees! The grey ones are up next and then I will be finished with trees for a while. After the trees I need to start making various houses in the “village”.

I can’t recall if I ever showed a photo of the entire pattern, so I popped it in at the top of the post. Isn’t it a great pattern? It is Winter Village by The Pattern Basket.
I’ve been busy decorating this week. I put away the Halloween decorations and brought out some more subdued Thanksgiving decor. I made several floral arrangements (some faux and some fresh) that turned out really great.

I’ve had these pilgrims and Indians forever, and each year I keep bringing them out. My son-in-law, Jeff (Sara’s husband), is Native American, and I asked him one time if they offended him, and he said no, so I still use them. For some reason, they remind me of my childhood. I grew up in Michigan and when I was five, my mom dressed me as an Indian Princess, all in white with fringes and moccasins. My grandpa was a hunter and had found a white pheasant feather that I wore in a headband with my long black braids. I won a prize at school for best costume. That sure wouldn’t be considered very sensitive or politically correct these days! Don’t hate me, it was a different time then, and people didn’t know any better. Anyway, I have a pleasant association for Native Americans in my decor. lol

I’m really pleased with how the hall table turned out. I bought two carved white wooden pumpkins and made a very natural-looking arrangement that I like so much.
In the three new pictures at the top of my blog you can see a fresh floral arrangement that I made in a pumpkin pot, and a couple of quilted table runners I have here and there. Have you put away your Halloween decorations? Don’t tell me you have decorated for Christmas already! I know some lovely folks who get the Holiday decor all put out on November 1st. No judgement here!

Your decorations are always so lovely Nicole. These are no exception. Don’t know if it’s just me but when you refer to the 3 pictures at the top of your blog, none appear when I open your post. I’ve not seen any at the top like you used to have since you migrated to your new platform. Hopefully it’s just me. Enjoy following your progress on your Winter Village – going to be a lovely one! As always, thanks for sharing.
If you click on the specific post, no photos.
If you open the blog as a whole, the photos should be there.

Thank you, I also did not see the pictures at the top. I thought it was just my computer.
The best reading experience is on the website itself. I am really proud of how it turned out, but it seems most people don’t even see it!
Thanks for letting us know this – I was not seeing the pictures either and I thought it was just my (older) computer!
The best experience for viewing my blog is from the website itself (not on a phone or from the email you may get). If you are on a laptop and go to sisterschoicequilts.blog, you will see the three header photos and the sidebar links to archives and blog topics.
My Xmas quilt is still up in the kitchen. When I hit September, I realized there was no point in switching it.
In one bathroom, it is still Valentine’s Day.
I consolidated most of my decorations in a walk in closet about a year ago. They are organized by holiday. I thought that would make things easier. Instead it was full stop.
I think organizing quilts in a spare walk in closet would be perfect for me. I love the idea of built in shelves where I can actually see what I have at eye level. Mine are on high shelves in my master bedroom closet and I need a step ladder to get to them. Not very convenient! Organizing by season or holiday is a great idea too.
woman found unconscious under a pile of quilts….news at 11:00 p.m.
I FEEL SEEN!!!
lol
I guess I don’t understand why anyone would be offended if Native Americans are portrayed as they were a couple hundred years go. I’m not offended by your pilgrim people either. Nice job on the quilt though!
I agree with you. It used to be considered a recognition of their part in American history and still is for me.
Nowadays, people are super sensitive when it comes to discussing marginalized groups of people, so I don’t want to offend anyone. I know back in the 50s, when I was a child, Native Americans were romanticized in the Thanksgiving stories we were told. As I matured, I read a lot of material on how they were taken advantage of and treated cruelly.
As always your decorating is lovely Nicole! Although our Thanksgiving is past I cant quite put away my pumpkins and other decor as our fall weather is really cooperating this year. I really like your fall batik table runner in your banner. Can you give us a full picture and some details on it?
Here is a link to the post where I shared the details of how I made it. https://sisterschoicequilts.blog/2020/08/maple-leaves-runner-and-our-state-is-burning-up/
I used the Maple Leaf pattern by The Pattern Basket as inspiration and made adjustments to create a runner. Here is a link to a post where there is a photo where you can see more of the runner:

I didn’t know you’re from Michigan. I’m from Battle Creek! As always, I love your quilting.
I was born in Ann Arbor and grew up in a little town nearby called Belleville. We moved to California when I was 12.
Your decor is always so spot on. Your new floral arrangements are just lovely! I like the groupings of Pilgrims and Native Americans, and I’m glad your son-in-law is not offended. And your green and red trees are beautiful; looking forward to see the rest of the quilt come together.
Thanks Sally!!
Th email I received didn’t have the three pictures. I clicked on the link at the bottom of the page and the blog with the three smaller pictures showed up.
Your decorations always look so classy and the table runners are lovely. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Linda! Yes, you have to go to the blog website itself to see all the features, including my three photos at the top. My plan is to change them out each month.
I’m partial to red, so those trees are right up my alley! I see lots of progress on the Winter Village quilt. Your maple leaf runner belongs in a magazine article about Fall decor! Another Michigan born reader here (Grand Rapids) but raised in South Florida & retired in Wyoming.
My husband Dennis was born in Grand Rapids and lived there the first few years of his life. HIs dad went to Michigan State, so they lived on campus in East Lansing for awhile as well. Then, they moved all over the place until he came to California when he was in high school. I was lucky, my family just moved once- from Michigan to Palo Alto, CA.
oh.my.gawd. born in freezing snowy weather….raised in hot muggy weather….back to freezing snowy weather.
Love your decor and am love the growing quilt! Thanks for the green trees, too!
Like my dear AMIL, I don’t decorate for Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving.
DH and our sons are part Choctaw and Cherokee from great grandparents and great-great grandparents and they couldn’t be more proud of that.
Hugs!
your decor always looks beautiful. I really love how I can comment on other peoples’ posts. this is just the best.
