What I’m Working On This Week

This week I am sewing the rows together for my Black and White Half Square Triangle exercicse.  Five rows done.  The missing row is stacked next to my sewing machine as I type this, all ready to be stitched.  This is going together very nicely.  My border fabric arrived last week, so this quilt top should be completed by the weekend.

This quilt was so much fun to put together.  I used all half square triangle units, 2 1/2" square.  I made 25 blocks, each using 16 half square triangle blocks, arranged in a different way.  I got the idea from Thelma and Carrie's Christmas Vacation Sew Along, where they made quilts using half square triangles based on Camille Roskelley's experiment using only half square triangles, arranged different ways to make a quilt top with no block repeated.

You could use any type of fabrics, 30's could be super fun, so would a holiday color theme version.

Here are a few of my favorite blocks:

  1. Nicole the Sewing Whizz is at it again! You do beat all in getting blocks made and quilt tops together and I stand in awe. Applause! IMHO, the border fabric you chose is absolutely perfect, too.
Glory be! We have heat again but next week will have a new heat pump and water heater installed as our old system that gave us heat and really HOT water is too old to fix all of the problems. It’s lovely to be warm again and I hope to get back to sewing since my sewing room doesn’t feel like the arctic.
    Hugs!

  2. Your quilt is going to look fantastic, Nicole. I have watched the other girls and their half-square experiments, and while tempting, I think I will just be a spectator on this one. I love that you did yours in black and white (or cream). It looks very classy. All dressed up and ready for a special occasion, maybe?

  3. What a wonderful way to use up those half square triangles. they weren’t a mistake after all. Glad your FIL is settling in. Godd point about not letting them wash the quilt. I learned that lesson the hard way with my Mom. have a great day.

  4. This is co9ming along quite nicely and love your blocks…..how different from each others blocks and love them!

  5. This is a very elegant quilt. The fabrics tie it all together even though each block is different. I can’t decide which block is my favorite, they are all super!

  6. Yummy colors! I really like Basic Grey’s Little Black Dress & LBD2 which this reminds me of. It’s going to be so gorgeous!!
