Now that is what I am talking about.
Thank you Liz A. I won't lie, I have been grievously challenged by this Metro Hoops pattern, using the Quick Curve Ruler. As much as I love the Quick Curve Ruler and the look of Sew Kind of Wonderful patterns, I was finding the square up instructions super confusing for the Metro Hoops pattern. Thank Heaven for the internet, I tell you. I got an email Saturday morning from one of my readers named Liz. Liz happened to have a sewing tip for this block that made all the difference.
Liz's advice was to be sure the measurement at the top right corner unit at the square off point was the exact same distance as the corresponding lower left corner unit. I got out my ancient seam gauge from my garment sewing days and used it to measure that distance. I am measuring from the inside curve seam to the 3" mark on the ruler. Then I trim off the excess fabric on the right and on the top of the ruler. Flip the block and square up to 8".
This tip from Liz was a real project saver for me. I am not sure I would have fought with those wonky corner units. Now they all come out 98% the same measurement, and the blocks are going together like a dream.
Woo Hoo! Now those are some pretty blocks! I had to stop though, because I ran out of the dark brown corner unit fabric! I have ordered more though, and should be back at it sometime this week.
Thanks to Liz, this project went from being a bit of a disaster to something I am really enjoying.

I can’t believe I just came across this. I am having an awful time figuring the same thing. I could not get the blocks to line up at the triangle corners. Wow!, just saved my sanity. I know I have ruined several blocks in squaring up. Thank you!!
Looks great! So glad you got the problem sorted out. It all sounds complicated to me! It will look so much better with matching seams, and you’ll love it all the more for being more exact.
