In my last post I proudly showed you my present block, which was block #2 in the Christmas at Granny's sew along. Oops. I totally cut it out wrong. How come nobody told me? No worries, there is more fabric where that came from. I remade the block and cut it properly this time, on the diagonal. The bow came out better the second time I made the block, so that's good too.

My gosh, these blocks take a lot of fabric. I guess that is the nature of these granny square type blocks. Here is my present block, all surrounded by the granny squares, ready to be trimmed down. The finished block is supposed to be 14 1/2", and both of mine were 15" exactly. I don't guess it really matters, I can work with that.

Here are my first two blocks, cute as can be. I have to say I really like how they came out!
Check out the sew-along at My Sew Quilty Life and on the Instagram page.
My husband continues to do just a bit better each day. He is sounding more like himself again, not so hoarse and puny. They sure do have fabulous equipment at the acute rehab facility and his therapists are really putting him through his paces. Well, not paces, since he can't walk yet, but you know what I mean. And, it seems that he will be home for Thanksgiving if all goes well. Still in a wheelchair, but we can handle that.
Have a great weekend everyone.

So happy to hear your husband is moving forward. Love your new blocks!
Every little bit of progress is wonderful news! I’m so glad he is improving. Baby steps, one day at a time. Good to see you sewing and getting some routines back that bring you joy.
I love these blocks! I guess I didn’t notice the goof; usually one is putting blocks on the diagonal at the layout stage. My Christmas quilt has blocks that are 18″ each; those take a ton of fabrics too!
Glad to get the updates, and so happy for a Thanksgiving homecoming! What an episode. Phew. LOVE the granny square quilt– I have never made anything like that with on point pieces, although I have a few kits in my closet– lol. Everything you do comes out fabulous and inspires me to try. Have a good weekend!
Great news about your husband! Your family will have a wonderful Thanksgiving being all together! The blocks look great! I’m sure sewing is your therapy over the past few weeks. Have a great weekend!
Yes, wonderful news on your hubby! Lots of blessings to be thankful for this year for your family! Take care.
Glad to hear your husband is improving. Those people in acute rehab sure know what they are doing and how to help him. He is right where he needs to be at this time. He’ll be home soon.
So happy for both of you!
So glad to hear Dennis is improving and will be home for thanksgiving if all goes well! Your little present block is adorable! This is going to be such a cute quilt!
Great news about your husband! Thank goodness for rehab:)
That’s great news about your husband’s forward progress! You’re sounding better which is also a positive! I’ll bet Archie has forgotten all about having to board & go to daycare now that he’s home-sweet-home full-time! I didn’t know what the block was supposed to look like when you did the first one, so it looked fine to me! It’s large enough that you could make it into a little pillow to go with the quilt!
I’m so happy to hear that your husband is improving!
Yay! So glad he’s improving! I love your new on point blocks ❤️! Very cute !
So terrific to hear that your husband is making progress, and yay for his therapists! It’s a bit of “tough love” at this point, but well worth it in the long run.
Love your new blocks. It didn’t register that the first one was done incorrectly; it looked fine to me!
I’m catching up on your blog after a long no-blogging spell. I finally got my caught up too. I love these Christmas blockc. I was so sorry to hear of your husband’s back problems. I can certainly relate, although mine is not as bad as his. I’m told that I basically have no discs to speak of and at least one nerve is being pinched. But, thank goodness, I can still walk, though not too steadily. It’s the pain that’s the main problem for me, but mostly when I’m on my feet. Hoping and praying that your guy continues to improve and is back on his feet soon.
