This sweet little block is #4 in the Christmas at Granny's sew-along. It did have a lot of fussy tiny pieces. I ended up making that star section twice because the first one came out wonky.

I have a fantastic update regarding my husband's recovery! Yesterday he was able to stand up from sitting in his wheelchair, hold onto a walker, and take steps! Quite a few steps actually. His therapist followed behind him with the wheelchair and he did have to rest a couple of times, but eventually, he was able to walk completely across the room!

You just would not believe how happy he was! We certainly do have a lot to be grateful for this Thanksgiving.

  1. Great news! Sounds like he will be home before you know it! I’m on a finish up UFOs kick— I have a Lori Holt Farm Girl quilt that needs about ten more blocks— lots of tiny pieces as well. Not sure I’m up for it— maybe January! Xox

  2. Those are some tiny pieces of fabric you are working with. Good job. Wonderful news about your husband. This illness puts life in perspective. It does for all of us and I am thankful your blog has been so open to show us how fast things can change and what is truly important.

  3. I am so happy for the both of you with this wonderful progress. This could be the best Thanksgiving ever for you and DH. I hope you have taken him a small quilt to use in rehab so he is covered in your love 24 hours a day. Your block is adorable, I do much more simple lap quilts as most are donations through the church I belong to.

  4. I’m choked up reading your news!! How marvelous your husband is making such progress. I’m sure he is thrilled, as are you! Quilt blocks look great! The tiny pieces would drive me out of my mind. I am fighting with a counted needlepoint right now. So many twisty stitch effects. It will be a gift for my god daughter eventually. Prayers you will be together at home for Thanksgiving.

  5. I am so happy that Dennis is making such excellent progress. Happy Days! Your little block is so darling. What is that background fabric surrounding your bobble?

  6. Such wonderful news! This is a great answer to so many prayers. Your block is so cute. I admire your perseverance. I have signed up for a Lisa Bongean class at Road2CA in January. I hope to learn some tips to help me be successful in making tiny blocks.

  7. Wonderful news! So happy for you both! He is a determined man. Can’t imagine how he felt not being able to move at all.
So much to be thankful for!!

  9. Congratulations on your husband’s progress! He must be elated! And, you must be breathing a sign of relief. As another commenter already said, this sewing is good to give you something to focus on for a little while each day. The ornament is very cute!

  10. Oh, I am so happy to hear this news! He is on his way to recovery now. It may take a long time, but he is on his way! I am thinking of you and praying for you. We are closing on a new house this week (yikes!), so I might not pipe in here all the time, but I am reading and praying and thinking of you guys!! Such an adorable ornament block, btw!!

  11. I’m so happy! He is doing so well! Next thing you know he’ll be back to doing all the things he used to do around the house! Okay, I’m projecting, but I am just so delighted for the both of you. You will have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 🦃

  12. Fantastic news about your husband! 🎉👏 Each step forward is a huge milestone and I’m sure you both are encouraged!! Watch out Archie – your chair days are numbered 🐾🐕🤣

  13. Oh that is such wonderful news! Thank you Lord for hearing our prayers – so thankful for the progress. It will be such a thankful Thanksgiving! Your block is so pretty, but it does indeed look like a lot of tiny fiddly pieces. I’m quite sure that I would not have the patience for such fine work. Probably would have to use tweezers!

  14. Oh, rejoice! I can imagine that Dennis is full of elation! This is just so wonderful to hear! What a wonderful Thanksgiving you will have. Just imagine how happy your little dog will be when Dennis comes home! I am feeling giddy for you and Dennis! Thanks for the great news!

  15. That’s fantastic news! So glad that he’s made such wonderful progress! Thanksgiving will truly be wonderful this year. Your blocks are cute.
