Sewing Again and It Feels Great

It was a beautiful clear crisp day in my neighborhood yesterday. I got started with my plans to sew every morning by starching the fabrics for my sister's Neutral Granny Square runner. It may be chilly, but that fabric dries fast anyway.

I went up into the sewing room for the first time in ages and tried not to be disheartened by all my paused and abandoned projects. Remember this adorable Halloween Memories project? I'll get back to it.

And this Christmas at Granny's project? Gosh that was a cute one and I was really enjoying it during back in early November when I started it. Then things got real around my house with my husband coming home from the hospital and rehab and there was no more time for sewing.

My lack of sewing time didn't completely stop me from doing a bit of fabric shopping however. How cute are these Fig Tree bundles? Farm Road Quilt Shop is a great Etsy shop and I have purchased a lot from them. I love that hey have a great selection and fast shipping. Don't know what I will make with these yummy fabrics but trust me, I will come up with something. I find I am increasingly drawn back to Fig Tree fabrics and 3 Sisters collections lately.

While I waited for my starched fabric to dry, I completed Block 8 in the Designer Mystery project from 2012. No, that isn't a typo. 2012. I love these cheerful colors and am pleased with how the blocks all look together.

I didn't buy the finishing kit for this project, so I will have to get creative when it is time to set the 12 completed blocks.

That little sunflower block at the lower part of the design wall was an experiment. I think several of those blocks put together as a table runner would be super cute. There is always a new project to look forward to, isn't there?

Are you getting back into the swing of things now that the holidays are behind us? I feel as if I am and it makes me very happy.

  1. I’ve started knitting again and have a wonderful teacher/friend. I find I’m more drawn to knitting and counted cross stitch than I am to sewing quilts! Never thought I’d see that day coming. I’ll get back to sewing soon because I can’t see myself knitting with wool in the summer.

  2. I’m drawn to Woolies flannel and gave in to a winterberry fat quarter bundle. Winter is long in Minnesota and I’m allowing myself this purchase. I’m glad to be back to normal routines too.

  3. Good job on the starching, that’s a neat drying rack! The Christmas blocks are sooo cute! I have not wanted to sew much lately and I really need to get back into it. I keep getting pulled away and lose focus.

  4. Well you can’t go wrong with Fig Tree or 3 Sisters! I’m happy to hear that things are settling down for you and getting back to normal. I cleaned up and put away all of my Christmas decorations yesterday and that always feels good to me. I love the decorations, but love to put them away too?! I am sewing on Sweet Scandinavian in deep Christmas colours but brighter colours are calling my name! Happy New Year to you, Nicole!

  5. I’m getting back in the sewing swing after finishing 2 table toppers for Christmas for my sisters. Now I’m starting a baby quilt for the charity quilt group at our church. I’m feeling like breaking out of the usual mold and I’m using some really vibrant, strong colors. It’s fun to do something outside my box.
Have to say that Fig Tree and Three Sisters have been two of my favorites for a long time. I love the elegance of Three Sisters, and the warm, vintage feel of Fig Tree.

  6. Good for you, making a sewing plan & sticking to it! I was happy to see your starching rack up & running in the first picture today! You won’t get bored with all those projects to choose from as the days roll by!

  7. You have a good plan for getting a new routine in your sewing room. Working with such beautiful fabrics should be inspiring. Starting with the runner for your sister will get you going and then maybe tackling one of the beautiful projects that has been waiting patiently for you. Wishing for continued improvement in your husbands journey back to good health. Take care! ♥️

  8. Inspiring! I have lost my quilting mojo for awhile. Need to get into the sewing room, review my projects and just dig in!

  9. Glad to see you having a teeny bit more time for your quilting projects. That will help you feel more like yourself, no doubt.
Continued prayers and positive vibes for your husband’s recuperation journey/progress.

  10. Love Fig Tree and 3 sisters – they never go out of style! I also have that same kit but also didnt get the finishing kit for it but bought the pattern. I need to take it out and finish it! I think I can substitute some fabrics to finish it off or I might just wait to see what you do and copy you 🤣🤣 will be watching to see how it turns out!
