String Quilt-Yellow Blocks

Enough with the reviews and re-caps already, right?  lol  Back to sewing.  As those of you who follow this blog know, I am participating in The Moda String Along.  I am using a pattern called "String Along" by Clark Street Quilts to make my blocks.  There will be yellow blocks, blue blocks, green blocks and red blocks.

I have to say, these are taking f.o.r.e.v.e.r to make.  Those four blocks took all day to make.  It is deceiving looking, as each "block" is actually made up of four string quilted mini blocks with a folded corner unit on one end.  So the block is actually four blocks.  What you see in the photo is sixteen yellow blocks.  Each one measures 5" square.

I only have four yellow blocks to make.  Next us is eight green blocks, then twelve blue blocks, and then sixteen red blocks.  Here's what I have accomplished so far:

Have you noticed how much fabric string quilts eat up?  My gosh, no wonder they recommend string projects as a method to use up scraps!  I could make two more quilts with the trimmings I am cutting off.

  1. They are pretty blocks but sound like a lot of work. I haven’t done any foundation piecing for a long time. Is it slowing you down? Lots of pieces in those babies!

  2. I can’t wait to see this quilt done, Nicole! AND…I was saving The Clockmaker’s Daughter for my airplane ride/cruise and now I might have to choose a different book to take!?!? I just started Once We Were Brothers. Have you read this one?

  3. I have never done foundation piecing before and I really wanted to join in on this one. I still plan to but woe is me I just ordered the Carol Doak foundation papers Monday. I will be way behind but I am okay with that. As usual your accomplishment has given me lots of inspiration. I want to send a big Thank you for your book reviews. I truly enjoy them. I know it takes quite a bit of time to do that. I still have not tried the audibles and I really want to. I saved one especially you had reviewed to start with. Again, a BIG thank you!

  4. I love your book reviews, save them all to pinterest and share them with the readers in my family. My granddaughter especially appreciated the “duds” review

  5. Paper (or foundation) Piecing is easy, but certainly not quick. I taught this for several years and had to get into people’s heads that easy does not equal quick! LOL But I like the precision of it. A little every day and you’ll get there! I love your yellow blocks!
