I’m Getting There

I got my husband to help me go through his closet yesterday. He had an entire wardrobe of beautiful suits and shoes that he used to wear to work when he was a banker in San Francisco's Financial District. Well, it was quite an investment of money, and it is now on its way to the donation center. Those days are behind him, and it's a life of sweatpants and flannel shirts from now on. He was pretty good at saying goodbye to his beautiful clothes, but I have to admit parting with his tuxedo was tough for him. Those were the days.

There is his side of the closet, all cleaned out. More room for me now, right?

My side is looking real good too. You can see I have a fair number of quilts on the top shelves. They seem to be holding strong and we have a nice high ceiling, so there's room for a few more.

My things are all in the tub. You have to get creative at some point when it comes to clearing the decks for new carpeting.

So, only one room left to clear out. Eva is coming tomorrow to help me sort through her books and toys and art supplies. I hope we can get rid of most of it, and still leave her a couple of shelves for what she needs when she is with us.

We have had a few days of glorious spring weather, but I have heard that is about to change. More rain is on the way, but that is the nature of fickle spring weather!

  1. I’m very impressed with your closet purging! And all of those quilts…so beautiful! You must smile when you walk into that closet & see them on the shelves!

  2. those tubs were meant for storage in my opinion. no one uses them anymore. you definitely need a cabinet or something in your living area to store your quilts. it makes me happy when I see mine.
those suits are going to make some people very happy. can you imagine? you go into a donation center in need of a suit and you find something that wonderful?

  3. My husband and I ordered new bedroom carpeting earlier this week. I’ll be doing what you’re doing in May! My only saving grace is that it’s only our bedroom compared to you having several rooms. Hopefully you’re starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel! Reading these posts is not helping get me motivated! 🙂

  4. What a bittersweet moment packing up the memories that have been hanging in your closet. Retirement + health = the new reality. It will be good that Eva is coming to help go through the last closet. I need a deadline in order to get moving on sorting closets and storage space. Clothes I can easily part with, but it’s the other STUFF that I find challenging. Take care!

  5. So many quilts! I’m in your neighborhood, sort of! We’re at Disneyland right now and will be heading down to San Diego on Monday. Heading home on Wednesday. Enjoy your cleaning with Eva!

  6. Impressive progress on the Great Closet Cleanout project! I’ll need to be doing that soon, just to keep my sanity.
Commenter Carolyn — have fun at Disneyland and then San Diego!

  7. Wow I can’t believe how sparse both your closets look! Where do you keep your tshirts and folded items? I wish I could get my husbands closet looking that organized 🤣
