I had fun over the weekend playing with my French General fabric and the Sewcialites 3 blocks that have been released to date. I decided to not include a couple of the block offerings because I felt they were verging into “cutsie” territory (notably the heart and the flower) and were not compatible with my vision for this quilt. substituted a couple of blocks from previous Sewcialites, as well as a 9″ block or two from other sew-alongs I have participated in.
One thing I highly recommend when you are working on blocks with many intersecting seams is to press all your seams open. It takes a bit longer, but it makes for a much flatter and nicer block.
I have a couple of other sew-alongs to catch up with (A Quilting Life and the Riley Blake Challenge), so I hope to tackle a few of those blocks this week and get caught up.

If there was a heart and a flower, then the house block makes sense. I wondered why a house with the other style of blocks.

Yes, I made the house because it was so adorable, but it may not fit in with the aesthetic of the quilt in the end. I will have to see as things move along.
This is going to be lovely. It looks patriotic to me so a perfect quilt for this summer’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of signing the Declaration of Independence. Beautiful! 🇺🇸
It is a step up from the typical patriotic quilt, isn’t it? I probably would mainly use it in the summer because of the color scheme. I sure do love working with those particular colors!
I’ve been pressing seams open on blocks in general for the past few years. They just look flatter/nicer to me. Your fabric choices for this sew along are stunning!
