This post is for all of you who are snowed in or iced in due to the miserable weather that is sweeping across the country. This quilt top was the 2015 Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery BOM. The pattern is available on the FQS website, and you can still get the fabric “Snowman Gatherings IV from Etsy sellers. This seller has the bundle listed for only $128. It isn’t the exact fabric from 2015, but a new release from last year. You also would need more fabric for the borders, but it is available if you search for it.
Primitive Gatherings has released four (!) iterations of this fabric collection, as it has been enormously popular. I made my quilt a couple of years ago with two of the Snowman Gatherings collections, #2 and #3, as I recall. I purchased random pieces from various online quilt shops and Etsy sellers. The colors do not vary from one collection to the next, so it all matched.
I had an absolute blast making this quilt top. The blocks are all either snowmen or various buildings. My very favorite is the schoolhouse block with the little flag flying next to it. Although the post office with the little mailbox is pretty sweet, too.
I did change up the setting a bit. The side borders were meant to go on the top and bottom of the quilt, but I would rather have the borders hanging over the sides of the bed rather than tucked in at the foot, so I switched it up.
You may notice that the snowmen are all blind at this point, but once the top is quilted, I plan to either add French knots for eyes, or maybe tiny little black buttons. I just sent two tops off to be quilted, but this one will be next up, I think.
I hope you are home, staying warm and safe. Driving in these icy conditions sounds treacherous, so if you are affected by the current frigid weather, do take care. These are the perfect conditions to head to the sewing room and sew!

Love the quilt! Wicked weather here is “forcing” me to have an all day quilting day today 😁 hope to finishing piecing a top. Stay warm and safe everyone who’s affected by the weather!
Happy sewing!
What a darling quilt! It looks as though this took a ton of time and effort, but it was worth it!
The blocks were quite involved, but they were fun to do. I spread this project out over a long time, so it wasn’t too painful.
Love that quilt!
Like a lot of people I started a COVID quilt in 2020. I made a house with a small block inside, one for each month of stay-at-home. I stopped at 22 months and put it away. I should get it out though and finish it. I love the quilt.
It just started snowing again here. We are past the worst of it but the extreme cold is staying around. A good day to quilt.
Hi Sue – so does that mean you stayed at home for 22 months? My office, in a university, only stayed home for a couple months. But once we “came back” we did an alternate type situation where half the office was here and the other half worked from home. Weekly we would alternate, and this lasted for another 6 months. By Christmas we were back to normal, although it was a modified normal with mandatory mask-wearing.
No, not at home all that time, but feeling restricted in my activities. I was recently retired and still figuring out my post work life. The quilt was the result of a need in me to express my frustration with the world, but the safety provided by my home and neighborhood.
That’s a memory quilt for sure!
The side borders make a great frame for the quilt. I think little black buttons for eyes once it’s quilted are a cute idea. We had low temperatures (-8) over the weekend but zero snow or ice in NW Wyoming. I have plenty of sewing to keep me busy, so no complaints!
Oh my goodness, that is darling. I do remember when you were piecing it together. Looks good and will be fabulous once quilted and you get the little eyes on the snowmen!
Cute quilt and I, too, love the wee post office! Am glad, too, you changed the pattern to suit yourself. Some quilters sadly feel they must stick to the exact fabrics and the exact layout without giving themselves permission to make changes and substitutions.
We’re looking out on a frozen landscape. Our 4″ of snow on Sunday has frozen solid and our high today is 33*F, not exactly melting weather. Last night the low was 9*F. Oh, yes. More annoying, it won’t get warm enough to thaw this stuff before more snow might arrive on Saturday. This is Virginia and it’s not supposed to be this cold! It is something to be thankful for that we have electricity – for now, anyway – and so many don’t.
Hugs!
I remember this adorable quilt! Yay! 2 more quilts off to the quilter.
